I'll be at the AC show, can't wait!

For those of you looking for a place to go, there's a good Irish Pub in the new Tropicana 'mall'. The mall area has really good restaurants and is hopping on the weekends, and the pub is called "Ri Ra Irish Pub". It's relatively new but very nice and they worked hard to make it authentic. Excellent menu too of pub fare + nicer stuff. It's not real big though so get there early to get some bar space.

Yeah I was looking online at photos of Ri Ras it looks great. I think I'll try to go there after the show. The menu looks decent.

Oh, and yeah there are some decent bars in the Borgata - one called the Gypsy Bar that's just downstairs from the concert hall. That'll be packed, I'm sure.

And I'm not sure who said it, but the Borgata concert hall is pretty bad. A big room with carpeting, flat floor, and poor acoustics. If you're in the back you won't see shite. Still, it'll be rockin!!!

The Gypsy Bar I think is the bar I was thinking of too. That's probably where I'll be if anyone wants to drink and gossip about the Pogues with me before the show!!

I'll be heading down on the train from Philly Sat. late morning. I'm guessing that the bars will be packed all day and night seeing as the AC St. Paddy's Day Parade is at 1pm on Sat.

Irish Pub is gonna be my first stop. It seems to be not within walking distance of the Borgata, but judging from the maps I've pulled up it doesn't look like anything is. IS anbody familiar with the cab situations in AC? Are there shuttles between any of the casinos?

Yeah I think a bar in the Borgata casino is our best bet, and the parade sounds like fun as well. That drive from DC is gonna be painful!! Can't wait though.

I move from Mexico on the 9th and will see the Dropkick Murphy's in Houston that night. Then its off to Atlantic City.

Driving up with 6 others from the Baltimore area on Saturday morning. Couldn't get tickets for DC, and it's actually better that I'm going to AC. I wouldn't have wanted to try to drive home after the DC shows. Staying at the Borgata, and should be arriving around 2:00 to start drinking. Last time I saw the band was at Wolf Trap in VA with Mojo Nixon and the Violent Femmes. Also saw them at the 8x10 in Baltimore before that, 20 years ago. Am extremely psyched.

My wife and I are flying in from Kansas City for the AC show, arriving sometime Friday. Preshow we'll probably at the bar in the Borgata. My wife is just getting over a broken ankle, so she won't want to do too much walking. I've loved the Pogues since the 80s. My wife hated them for years, but she finally saw the light.

I'm heading up from Arlington, VA, but I'm a jersey girl through and through and grew up in and around Atlantic City. god damn I miss the ocean!

my ol' pub is gone, The Greater Pittsburgh aka the Pit aka McGuire's which was one block from the "Irish" pub. well the building is still there, but the bar is definitely NOT the same. McGuire's is where I used to spend all my time and on nights of music, typically ended up on stage singing all the Pogues songs and then some. many of the old decent pubs are crap now, esp. since most of the decent barmen went home to Ireland years ago.

all of us AC Irish (and Irish-american, mind you), Pogues fans will more than likely be at Ri-Ra at Tropicana after the show.

if anyone has any other questions or concerns about AC, let me know, I know the streets and neighborhoods very well.

I'm off to the AC train in a little while, probably be hanging around the casino pre-show with my poker-playing buddy - she plans to hit the tables while I'm seeing the show (she's saving her concert experience for the Nokia). My pic's in the gallery - if you see me, say hello.

I was just wondering who was at the Atlantic City show on March 11. I was there present and accounted for. Overall, the Borgata hotel and casino was a piss stain in the middle of Atlantic City, and the concert hall where the Pogues played, was disappointing. My friends Gary, Jennifer and I had bought our tickets online, so we were stuck with assigned seats, meaning we were'nt allowed to go down into the main pit area, however our seats were still fantastic, I got a perfect view of the stage. As for the Pogues, brilliant. The show was one of the best I have ever had the experience to see. Every member of the band was in top form, even Shane. I was a bit worried when he came out, because he appeared to be drunk, but as the show went on he got better. James Fearnley was a maniac on stage, playing his accordion with pure fire and energy. Terry Woods was brilliant, always loved that guy, Young Ned of the Hill rocks. Philip Chevron, words can't do him justice alone, I mean Thousands Are Sailing just says it all. Jem Finer, loved that he played two types of banjos, my favorite being the wooden one, and his daughter Ella was beautiful during the second encore of Fairytale of New York. Spider Stacy, best tin whistler of all time to my mind, love the beer tray during Fiesta, and your Tuesday Morning. Of course the always reliable Daryl Hunt, wish they would have played Modern World, my favorite song by that man. Andrew Ranken, your interpretation of the Star of the County Down, was just perfect. Last but certainly not least, Shane MacGowan, loved your little dance number during Sayonara, and also you whipping the hell out of the mike stand during the encore of The Irish Rover.

Overall, I pity anyone who hasn't seen this great band live, because they put on a stellar show (I only wished they would have played The Boys From the County Hell.) Again, one of the best shows I have ever been to and a moment in my life that I will cherish forever.
So, Mr. Chevron, Mr. Ranken, Mr. Stacy, Mr. Hunt, Mr. Finer, Mr. Fearnley, Mr. Woods, and Mr. MacGowan thank you all from the bottom of my heart for giving me on the best nights of my life. Slainte!!!!!!!!!!! and GOD BLESS!!!, Iain.
