Urgh, I didn't like the Towers of London at all. Thought their sound was nothing new or special, the singer had a wannabe-Johnny-Rotten thing going, and they struck me as poseurs - They looked like they stepped right out of a Hot Topic store with those perfectly-spray-painted insert-your-melancholy-slogan-here shirts. Dunno, they really seemed amateur to me. Another "revival" of the punk aesthetic without the real passion behind it!

OK, you're entitled to your opinion, but when you say, "another 'revival' of the punk aesthetic without the real passion behind it," what would you have had them do to prove their "real" passion? I mean, they sounded pretty good and put on a decent show. How could you tell they were poseurs?

My main criteria was that their music didn't strike me as anything new or interesting, and they seemed more concerned with how their hair looked and how far they could spit into the audience in order to seem "hard." I think they should have put more energy into writing songs and less into their appearances.

If you liked them then fair play, I just thought they came across as silly.

I'm with you, blahblah. To quote Gertrude Stein (who was quite the punk in her day), there was no there there. The songs just weren't that good or interesting (and I say this as someone who just about worships at the altar of 1977, and is happy to see the torch carried).

As for the Pogues audience, given that most of the audience on any given night knows every Clash song by heart, regardless of their age, there's plenty of punk-love. Those guys were just....not that good.

Towers o' London

Post Tue Jun 20, 2006 6:59 pm

You've read about them being fashion horses and poseurs; now see them for yourself. I give to you Towers Of London from March 19, 2006 at the Nokia Theater:

OK - You can't really tell, but that's totally a hand in the classic Rock The Devil pose.

And I might add:

You've heard them called The Future of Conscientious Irish Rock. You've heard them called Idealistic Wankers with Utopian Views of Socialism. You also heard them open for The Pogues on March 19, 2006. I give you Seanchai!

I can't count how many times I've wanted to use that on this site. I think there needs to be one instead ofone of the other dot symbols.

'Cause the constant cries both private and public have been non-stop, I've finally given in. Here, for you, after only three months in cold storage, never before seen by human eyes, is more William Elliot Whitmore!

This time he's opening for The Pogues on March 18, 2006 at the Nokia theater!

Hell yeah!

Thanks, DzM! VERY nice...Being a guest, and an old one at that, I hesitate to say anything, but I think you'd get more looks if these were posted under Shared Glory.

Thank you Esther.

You're probably right, but I'm not really shooting for maximum hits here. Mostly I'm just replying to the threads where that particular opening act got discussed.

If I don't get the massive ego stroking I think I deserve then maybe I'll post notices for them more prominently. :)

I should also point out that as a guest you have to deal with the Captcha when you post, you can't use Private Messages, and the fora can't keep track of what messages are new since your last visit. Have you considered registering? :)

Well naturally it should. 'Cause mine are already on the computer. And they're awesome. And I've just been holding off waiting for yours. :)

Yeah. Waiting for yours.
