I need a miracle (I sound like a Dead Head)

Post Thu Feb 02, 2006 5:48 pm

I remember seeing Grateful Dead fans holding up signs with "I need a Miracle" written on them with hopes of finding tickets to sold-out shows.

I am one of the unfortunate fans in Maryland that didn't get a ticket. I'm 32 years old, and have caught Shane and the Popes on all their tours except one the past decade and had a blast every time. I've been a fan of the Pogues since the 80s and throughout the ups and downs in my life their music has been there. Not to give a sob story, but my grandmother has been on and off her death bed for the past few months and I got out of the loop and in doing so missed out on tickets. And she's still alive through all of this!

I think I may just pay the extra money for an overpriced ticket from a ticket broker, but some of those are charging over $300 at ticket- yikes. I won't regret the money in 10 or 20 years, but I will regret not catching them this tour! So hopefully i'll be there with you all!

Someone had mentioned that they didn't sell Guiness at 9:30 club. If i'm not mistaken, they did have cans of Guiness when I saw Shane and The Popes years back. But that may have changed (I don't see why- they would make a fortune).
Cheers,
Deitrich

Thanks so much for the kind words! It is one of those parts of life that aren't fun to think about or deal with, but she knows she will be flying free soon without the pain of her sickness.

God bless and cheers!

Deitrich -- First of all, you have come to the right place. You are not alone. I've chatted with others here who have "potentially" extra tickets. As we get closer to show time, that should sort itself out. My advice: keep watching, keep posting, and don't give up. Someone recently said they found a fair price on e-bay, which shocked me, but then again, e-bay is an effective way to sell stuff (I just fundamentally have a problem with scalping on the scale that I've seen for these shows, when the venues are small, and big fans get screwed). I've noticed some people backing off of the show on the 9th (because its a late show, probably) as they find their way to tickets on the 10th. If all else fails, you should go on the 9th and see what you can get at the club -- some may have an extra (and a lot of us got tickets through pre-sale and it is Will Call only, so some people probably will have extras). My guess is that you will see one of the shows.

Incidentally, I went to a Dead show in 1989 and saw someone just plop down on his back in a crowd of people in the pasking lot, and held up his hand and said something that I could not understand, and someone placed a ticket in his hand and just kept walking. And the guy got up and looked at the ticket with a big smile and that was it...... maybe you are that guy. (figuratively, not litterally)

Where in Maryland? :)

Hey there Eric! Hey that's actually my first name! Thanks for the info (makes me feel better!). :-)

So if you see a guy laying on the sidewalk with his hand up in the air, it may be me- lol! I might put a towel or blanket down on those D.C. sidewalks. I live in Woodbine, MD on the Howard/Carroll County line. Most people know where Mt. Airy is, so it is near there. It's about 45 minutes or so from D.C. I'll keep you informed on my journey! You all are special people, one of a kind fans! I actually just registered to this site. I haven't been one to spend much time on forums, I wish I would have hooked up on this a long time ago. Well, talk to ya later!

Hey, I know how you feel on all points stated. My grandma suffered from Alzheimer’s for about 8 years, before passing in 2001. Good luck on your ticket search.

WesE, Thanks for your message. Wow, my grandma has Alzheimer’s as well. That's what has made her situation so drawn out. A lot of people suffer from that. Sorry to hear about your grandmother, I know how hard that is for a family. Take care now...

Dietrich, you should try to get tickets ahead of time, somehow, if possible. That will give you something to look forward to. Hopefully you are not your grandmother's only caretaker. Last year was a roller coaster with my Dad, who we moved here in June to an assisted living residency for AD. I have one brother in town, other siblings scattered. I bought tickets for Glasgow as soon as I could, but then worried about what would happen with my Dad while gone for a week. Everything was fine, and I REALLY NEEDED that trip! Nothing quite like a Pogues gig to lift one's spirits. Good luck with the search.

Good luck with the tickets, and very best wishes Deitrich.

I'm sure you will be lucky, and I promise if you get there you will have the time of your life.

All the best.

Hey thanks you all! Fortunately my grandmother is in good care right now and my father takes on a lot of the responsibility. Yeah, I definately would like to have a ticket ahead of time so I won't stress about it as the time comes. I actually had someone send me a message about a possible ticket for Friday night at 9:30. I have my fingers crossed! :-)

I'll keep in touch!
