CANADIANS going to US shows...passport required?

I really gotta start preparing for my drive to Boston.

But I'm curious...we hear a lot about Canada/US border nowadays, but I am still unsure, will my GF and myself need passports to travel from Canada to the US by car?

Travelling from Halifax BTW.

Anyone else between Halifax and Boston travelling by car?

You will not require a passport. I have recently driven from Halifax to Boston to see a Springsteen concert and all I needed was my drivers license.

As long as you're a Canadian citizen, a passport is not required to enter the U.S. -- yet. Official photo I.D. should be fine.

This from the Department of Homeland Security:

Entry of Citizens of Canada
Citizens of Canada are exempt from the visa and passport requirement of Immigration and Nationality Act (section 212(a)(7).) To enter the United States, a Canadian citizen must be able to establish both identity and citizenship. Documents that may establish citizenship are:

Birth certificate
Citizenship certificate
Passport.

Although a CBP officer may accept an oral declaration of citizenship, it is recommended that a Canadian citizen carry a document that establishes citizenship. Under current procedures, all travelers may be required to present photo-identification.

I was looking into getting mine renewed...kind of a hassle to gather all the documents...see yas on the 18th!

Thanks for all this. I remembered this thread, but never got back to it.

I did personally find that bit about the homeland security thing, which was a relief!

I did however start to fill out the passport info anyway...man, as bad as a unemployment insurance application or resume.
