With all due respect to your good intentions, a performer is entitled not to endorse the commemorative sale of his/her performance for any number of professional or personal reasons. It would be arrogant of us to assume every performance we give is worthy of a souvenir. however flawed or slipshod. I think the fact that we have released and supported one live album in 24 years tells its own tale. We thought, on due reflection, that it was perhaps worthy of your attention. My understanding of the way the Automatic Live Album works is that the artist suspends the right to such judgement, if only for want of time to check the recording.

Our process is not instant, we would have mailed the CDs out roughly a week later to give time for proper mixing as well as approval from the artists. That being said, I completly argee with you. I am not a fan of the instant recordings myself they seem too rush many times. This is why I started the company I have to give artists another option in order to release the highest quality product possible. I know many fans may be disappointed that records won't be available but the band chose not to and that is fine with me and should be fine with everyone else.

When I read this thread I can't help but to think bigger picture. Of course I would buy a CD of the show I went to, if fact I would buy EVERY live CD of the Pogues that was availible. However, why must society commoditize every experience these days? I feel that memories of an actual event will always be better than some lesser quality, subjective recording of the event. This is the reason that I did not want my wedding videotaped. It is the reason that the Boston Redsox Carlon Fisk did not want to see a video of his game 6 winning home run. If I listen to a recording of an event that I witnessed the recording has a tendency to become the memory.

I commend the Pogues for puting quality first and, at the same time, making the live experience more special by not seeling out and releasing every recording that they have. Art has a rare win over commerce.

Live CD's of the concerts- wishful thinking!

Post Sat Dec 02, 2006 9:43 pm

I'm off to see one o the Madness shows in December and i've just got an E-Mail from one o me pals, letting me know that all the shows are being recorded and mixed in real time. The CD's of each show are available to buy immediately after the concert. Personally speaking a great memento and it would be fantastic if they were available at The Pogues concerts, obviously too late to set up for this tour, but if theres another tour next year?????

The Pixies did that on their last tour and it was really nice to have the cd of the show I went to. It did take a few months to get the cd made however.

barenaked ladies operated a cool system when i saw them last year in you can buy a code which u enter on the website and download the gig for free, or just buy it later off the site, meaning effectivly the whole tour was avalible for d/l at a reasonable price

As you can see, Johnty, this bright idea has been suggested and well discussed already. And I'd like to draw your attention to Philip's view on the issue

Recordings for vegas show

Post Sun Sep 16, 2007 6:12 pm

any chance they will record the show live and distribute the cd? A lot of bands are doing this now and would love a live soundboard mix of a pogues show I will be at.
