I do like Letterman, though. And if what you say above is true, and Letterman told Bill O'Reilly he was full of shit, then as far as I'm concerned the man is still has the edge. I HATE Bill O'Reilly!!!! Bill O'Reilly is an evil smug bastard, who tells lies to the sheep who follow him, all the while telling them that he is "fair and ballanced." And the morons just sit there and go... "well, it must be true then, because Bill said so, and he has high ratings, and his books sell, and well... because he said so."

I saw and can confirm the previous poster's summary of the Letterman-O'Reilly meet-up, though I think Letterman's comment to O'Reilly was that "about 60 percent of what you say is crap." I'd've put the percentage higher than Letterman did, but it was refreshing to see Letterman 'go after' someone who so richly deserves to be ripped to shreds.

DID you know that the self-styled former Son Of Erin (see what I mean about being careful who we admit?) is known in Japan as Bill O'Liar-y ?

.... and Sean Hannity is another one. I'd love to put a dustbin on both of their heads and beat that can for hours.

Aside from the "Son of Erin" thing, O'Liar-y also claims to be of a "working class" Levittown, NY background. From what I understand, Levittown isn't any more eager to claim him as one of their own than Ireland is -- particularly in light of the fact that he's from the less working-class town of Westbury, NY.

There are clips of the interview on youtube. I just watched it last night for the first time. Brilliant! Almost as good as when John Stewart went on Crossfire in 2004 and told Begala and Carlson that they were a couple of political "hacks" and were "hurting America."

John Stewart is hosting the Oscars. This is where cultural America's fightback begins, as investigative journalists, gay cowboys and transvestites take the prizes from fundamentalist penguins.

phil, ya lost me again.

I looked up Bill O'Reilley, I have no idea who he is.

And, FWIW, I don't watch much late night TV anymore myself besides mythbusters and Barret Jackson auctions.

I never knew Shane or DKM were on Conan. Never pay attention. I just look at the current state of popular music and assume that's the garbage everyone promotes.

Coop, I know exactly what you mean. There is so much garbage that passes for music being promoted by the mass media these days, it's a mind screw! I am, however, deathly afraid of sounding like an old fogey with the "my generation's music is better than yours" . But, at least in terms of what is in the top 40 (whatever the hell THAT is supposed to be) I am being proven correct, I think.
Did the old songs taunt or cheer you, and did they still make you cry?

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what
I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me. And it will happen to you.

Awright, we've got nominations for investigative journalists (Good Night and Good Luck -- including Best Picture, Best Director [George Clooney], Best Actor [David Strathairn as Edward R. Murrow], Best Original Screenplay [Grant Heslov & George Clooney]).

We've got nominations for gay cowboys (Brokeback Mountain -- including Best Picture, Best Director [Ang Lee], Best Actor [Heath Ledger], Best Supporting Actor [Jake Gyllenhaal], Best Supporting Actress [Michelle Williams], and Best Adapted Screenplay [Larry McMurtry and Diana Ossana]).

We've got at least one nomination for a transsexual (Transamerica -- Best Actress [Felicity Huffman]).

However, it doesn't feel (to me at least) that cultural America's winning any battles. The U.S. Senate has just confirmed as a Supreme Court justice a man who seems not to give a damn about human or civil rights.

Judge Alito aside, let's hear it for Pogues fan Matt Dillon, who gets his first Oscar nomination for CRASH. 8)

Last night as I slept I dreamt I met with Behan, I shook him by the hand as we passed the time of day.

Congrats to Matt Dillon.

I'll say, though, that I was kinda surprised that the actor who played Senator McCarthy in Good Night and Good Luck didn't get a nomination.
