And, while researching Martin McDonagh's work, in preparation to see "The Lieutenant," I see that he is also nominated for an Oscar in Best Short Film Live Action category for "Six Shooter." This almost tempts me to watch this Hollywood me-fest. Nah, too many plastic people.

Will Martin be there though?? He sent (director) Wilson Milam to collect his Olivier for Lieutenant. Wilson: "Martin said to tell you he's sorry he can't be here and that this is for Joe Strummer"

That's just too cool!
I see that "The Lieutenant," is the second installment in "The Aran Islands Trilogy." The third, being "The Banshees Of Inisheer." Has this been on stage in London?

The Cripple Of Inishmaan has been produced, but the Banshees, if it exists, has not. Be aware of two things: Martin routinely lists fictional works or obscure, rejected radio plays, in his biog and that Lieutenant was written in 1994 (to commemorate the real-life death of his cat Wee Thomas) and laid aside for 7 years. And also, he is on record as having given up the playwritin' until all his extant works are given productions. Make that three things to be aware of.

Imagine that....an idiot like me, with still filthy hands following some routine maintenance on the motorcycle inquiring about theater
The end of the world is near.

Ah, but the very reason Marty lends his considerable talent to the theater is because he knows so much of it is shite. He's the Pogue of Broadway :)
