Late Show with David Letterman?

Post Fri Dec 30, 2005 10:36 pm

Mr. Chevron,

Any chance you guys will be invited to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman on CBS when you are in NYC? Should I try to get tickets to a taping of his show just in case? Given the close proximity of the venues involved I thought it might be a logistical possibility.

Just curious....

Mr Letterman has not yet extended such an invitation to us but I am inclined to the view that the timing may be problematic. We soundcheck every day even at a multi-show single-city engagement.

Sometimes, yes.....but we don't always encourage that behaviour.

I think if we were offered Letterman again we might possibly forego the soundcheck. But saying that, last time we were offered it everyone decided to go on fucking holiday leaving me to do it with our then guitar tech (and sometime manager of U2) Paul MacGuiness.

I remember that show and I was pissed off at the Letterman people because I thought they said you had to play with the Late Show band and all the Pogues weren't invited. Guess I owe them an apology.

It seems to me that the Conan O'Brien Show would be a bitter fit.

Letterman is shown on ITV4 here, just seen it tonight actually. Don't think Conan is on anymore though. Pity.

Personally, I can't stand Conan O'Brian. Or Jay Leno for that matter. Letterman has his bad days, but I prefer him to any of the others.

Letterman was great when he was on after Carson. I am drunk today and this is just my opinion, but I can not remember Lettermen taking any risks latetly other than the fine time just this month when he told Bill O'Reilly that he was full of shit. Other than that, Letterman seems content to kiss the ass of what ever musical guest is popular. Conan at least comes off as a Pogues fan as evidenced when Shane-o was on the show.

yeah conan would be ideal since he seems to like good music, and has had dropkick murphys on a few times (including the infamous spicy mchaggis jig with kilty mcbagpipes coming out to dance for the band). conan and jimmy kimmel have the best music guests. leno and letterman are old. i can't watch letterman anymore because of paul schaffer. man he's so annoying and his little intro songs are god awful! i can come up with that shit and i suck as a writer. haha.

I don't watch late night TV anymore, but occasionally Tivo shows if I know a good band is going to be on, like a few months ago when Gogol Bordello was on Conan. I do like Letterman, though. And if what you say above is true, and Letterman told Bill O'Reilly he was full of shit, then as far as I'm concerned the man is still has the edge. I HATE Bill O'Reilly!!!! Bill O'Reilly is an evil smug bastard, who tells lies to the sheep who follow him, all the while telling them that he is "fair and ballanced." And the morons just sit there and go... "well, it must be true then, because Bill said so, and he has high ratings, and his books sell, and well... because he said so."

The self-righteous blowhard cvnt is now proposing a "debate" among six "guests" to be named later. I guess loofah boy needs six new fish to shout down with his usual blend of inane pious shite. He couldn't debate a stump. Cheers Eric V.
