The Levellers arent the same kindof thing as The Pogues at all and attract a very different audience but they are still probably one of the best live bands and Levelling The Land is a classic.

For it made ukrainians and jews emigrate ? Otherwise we should thank Ukraine for Eugene Hutz... (as well as Israel and USA for his colleagues)

Maybe a slight hint that the Ukrainians are not children of the "Holy Mother Russia"? :)

I don't really see why anyone wants a support band anyway, isn't every normal person in the pub until the last minute?

I think MacRua is pointing out that the members of GB are as Russian as you are Irish.

I would love to have a more Folkier band.
I loved DKM as a supportact they were fantastic
BUT it would be nice to have a band like Levellers or Oysterband to support the Pogues.
Why not Christy Moore, Fairport Convention or Richard Thompson.
Diehard fans of Fairport Convention and Richard Thompson usually don't like the Pogues because the Pogues don't play Folkmusic the way it should be played
So then we force them to be at a concert with the Pogues and maybe they will see that the Pogues are the real deal when we talk about Folkmusic
Christy Moore would also be very nice, maybe Christy and Shane could do something together at the concerts.
They did a lovely Spancil Hill together a couple of years ago in a TV-show

What supportact would you like to see next year?

I would like to see The Tossers open up - I saw them play with Spider a few years ago and they put on a really good show... It might sound too much like The Pogues, but who knows - at least they can all play really well...

There's a band from Dublin called "Prison Love", I saw them in New York during the summer at Rodeo Bar and Rocky Sullivans and they were brilliant. I would call their music "bluegrass with a twist!". In the spirit of the Pogues, they like to mix it up ... they do a rockin' version of "the Auld Triangle" as well as a couple of Motorhead and AC-DC tunes. Sounds strange I know, but they are a riot, and would definitely go down well as an opening act for the Pogues. http://www.prisonlove.info

For some reason i now have an image in my head of Don Mclean playing a nice laid back, easy listening version of "Bomber" :D :D :D

Agree about The Oysterband, Levellers, Fairport etc though. Theres a horrible "worthy" vibe to those bands music that puts me right off them. Not to mention all those gits in ethnic trousers who populate their gigs. :x

How about Public Enemy opening for The Pogues? Now that would be an interesting bill.

I dont think these two would fit together. DKM is a much better choice. FM has a couple of good songs per record and the rest is actually quite shite. They don´t have the ´honesty´ of the Pogues, though they are a very very good and energetic live band.

Don't care that much about the support, as long as they don't play for too long - it's the Pogues I want to see.
Having said that, Gogol Bordello would be a great choice.
Or Yat-kha, second best live band I've seen this year. Rocking punk throat-singing from the heart of Tuva...

I think that bands without a strong following by a particular fanbase make the best opening acts. When you get bands like these named, most of them are well-known amongst the Pogues fanbase. So, why not pick something a little bit different and introduce us to a world of new music? That's what I thought the opening act generally was, a way to introduce fans of one band to another band they likely haven't heard of.

I'd agree with that, TheIrishRover. Can be a bit of a problem when devoted fans have come to see the support act but aren't much interested in the main band.
