The pogues are not a folk group and Billy Bragg has far more important things to do than support the likes of us. The Levellers are shite and Christy Moore? That would be like Don McLean opening for Motorhead. As for the Sawdoctors, I would never chose to play with them but twice now they have been dumped in our laps by clueless promoters.Looks like it's happing again in Atlantic City but I assure you this will be the last time. Thank fuck and Holy Mother Russia for Gogol Bordello.

Oh shit, now I'm getting into arguements with people who may only possess electronic identities.

By the way, if anyone is intrested, I know Mickie Stabbs. He's Welsh and fronts an absolutely brilliant punk band called Strawberry Blondes.

thetinwhistlerintheband I have followed you since rum sodomy and have seen you Live over 10 times (I live in Sweden) and of course I have all your records 8)
Of course a bandmember knows more about his band then a fan of the band does :D
My idea of a more Folky band next christmas tour take it for what it is.
I really liked DKM they did a splendid job but a more songoriented folkband
i think that would be super, but remember it's your choice and you did a great choice with DKM
I think that it doesn't matter so much what kind of music a supportact play, the attitude is far more important.

So you don't like hippies and flower power (the Levs) I think they are good but not a fantastic band like the Pogues :)
Keep up the good work thetinwhistlerintheband and have yourself a happy New Year. :D

Then they'll take you to Cloughprior and shove you in the ground. But you'll stick your head back out and shout "We'll have another round"

Spider,

Have to agree with you about Gogol Bordello. Only stumbled across them a few months ago and now catching up on their past. Would love to see them live sometime.

The Levellers have lost their way in the studio but still manage to pull something out of the hat on the live front.

I think I've heard about them, just one song though which was rather, well, offensive. But I might also be wrong cause I tend to mix up things

Keep up, Eric. I'm telling celticjunk that it'll be a cold day in hell before he gets his folky support act. Oh, and the one above about Gogol Bordello was from me too.

It's all a bit time consuming, this correspondence. Maybe i'll just mind my own business from now on.

I have it too. From looking through their site and reading various reviews, and looking at the material on Amazon, I think Gypsy Punks (the yellow one) is the best. It includes some of the better songs from the previous albums. I also looked through their free downloadable offerings. Good stuff.

Saw them live a few months ago. Did not know what to expect. Was there to see Flogging Molley. It was Gypsy/Eastern European/Balkan folk with an edge (some say punk). Also some latin and ska (dub) influence in some songs. It was a bit of a performance art show in that they had props, girls with big marching band percussion instruments, and their style (dress, speach, body language, dance) was a little camp (humor). Anyway, I loved it. :)

Spider,
Well I guess you can see from the above posts the link to G B's back catalogue.
They remind me of Les Negresses Vertes a lot. Zobi la mouche is one of my favourite songs.

I remember seeing them on the same bill as The Pogues during Reading Fest 1989. Went just for the Saturday with a great line up though it pissed down all day. If memory serves me correct you headlined supported by Les Negresses, Billy Bragg, Men They Couldn't Hang, Bhundu Boys, Green on Red and New Model Army aka clog army ! probably not in that order
