Connollys

Post Sun Jan 15, 2006 12:18 pm

Can i bring a child into this establishment, i am coming over from england with my partner and 12 year old son and dont know the situation for drinking in bars with kids in tow. I notice tickets for hte Nokia say over 16s only but i have e mailed them and they have assured me they will allow us in as long as my boy stays at my side. Still its a long way to come to pick tickets up at the venue and maybe find out we cant get in . Maybe Mr C can put my mind at rest ?

Sorry friend....I can't even have a cigarette in a New York bar, and they have zero concept of stocking palatable drinks for teetotallers, so I tend to avoid them except for food.

I think I'd take the Nokia's own response at face value, perhaps printing out the email as insurance.

I only have tix for the 16th,as we're going to Boston for the Dropkicks on Paddys day. We'll be at Connollys from probably around 5ish.We have a large group of 12,I think, going to the show,so we'll use Connollys as the meeting ground. As for underagers, they will let (probably)let you bring him in,but not allow you to sit at the bar.You would have to get a table & order food.As for Nokia, follow Philips' advice. You wouldn't want to be turned away at the door.

glad to hear i can walk. how long it takes really is not a problem--im also a window shopper so since distances are not that great, i was just worried about sore feet. i once did 12 miles in 2hr 30minutes on hot pavement and my feet swelled up--i was wearing converse which are not the best walking shoes....ok im set to go! :D

But I was the first to make a speedy, snotty 45 that lasted less than 2 minutes, yes. For that matter, Television Screen , which reached #17 in Ireland in 1977, was the first Top 20 punk single anywhere in the world.

Awsome! :D And they haven't knighted you yet????

Just let them try!! Look what happened to Roger Casement.....

Ok then, how 'bout cannonized? Saint Philip of ....... (the possibilities are numerous) :)

Good Bars/Pubs

Post Sun Jan 15, 2006 10:05 pm

There are two good resources for finding a bar or pub in NYC. One is newyork.citysearch.com As an example if you are staying at Milford Plaza, search for that. Then scroll down the page and on the left is a place that says near Milford Plaza - hotels, restaurants, bars ect. If you click on bars you will get a list of bars near Milford Plaza. The bar at Milford Plaza is not bad, but DO NOT eat at the deli/restaruant. It's awful. Near the Milford, Scruffy Duffy on 8th and The Irish Rogue on W 44th are not bad. Right up the street on 8th is Playrights. Food not bad but they do not serve Guiness. They have Murphys. More of a Cork Bar. The other place to find good bars is http://www.murphysguide.com if you look at on the left side there will be a list for types of bars and if you check you will see Irish. I have used both of these searches before and have found some great places.

Don't be afraid to use the subway. It's not as user friendly as the system in some other cities but it's a great way to get around. Much cheaper than a cab. Just remember uptown you will be heading toward high numered streets and downtown you will be going to lower number streets. Of course that whole idea is crazy when you get below 14th street.

Hope this helps.

I am so sorry. I know better than that. Good luck with http://www.murphguide.com and the citysearch site does not have www in front of it. I hit my head Saturday night, must have been a little harder then I thought. haha Also I spelled Playwrights wrong.

Well, I have to eat my words. NY is just not going to work out for me, and I'll have to just settle for D.C. Life gets in the way sometimes. Anyway, thanks to all for your kind advice and to Aineen for the ticket lead. I hope you all have a great time there! :)

... but sometime this year I am going to walk/dance up and down the streets in Brendan Behan's footsteps, and I can't wait.

Hello everyone; glad to see posts by people who are also going it alone in the big apple. I couldn't get any of my dead beat friends to join me and I ain't about to miss an opportunity to see my first Pogues show. I been once before and trust me people, it's not that scary of a place (ofcourse I was there long after Giuliani was at the helm) I'm not a complicated cat so I'm just hosteling it at some place on the Bowery. Thirty something bucks for a private room per night! I've heard rumors of $200 a night hotels in NYC being nothing more than rat traps so I'm not risking it. I'd love to meet up with y'all at O'Connellys so I'll be there around five. Can't focking wait!

Oh and I'll help you with your bags "lost and found girl" but you better be a good tipper!

Eric V,Sorry to hear that you can't make it...you sound like alot of fun to party with...as for new guest,I repeat,I'll only be at Connollys on the 16th as a meeting ground for my 12 or so ticket holders.Of course,go each & every night & enjoy it.It's a really nice place.Very clean for NYC.And we're not scary here at all anymore.Times Square is like Disneyland.Good for all ages, very crowded & expensive.Since I hooked you guys up with a good bar,I'll do the same for a pretty good cd store. It's called Generations...it's in Greenwich Village on Thompson St. between 3rd & Bleecker. This area was SOOOOO prominent for record stores "back in the day".It was great fun searching down import singles from Elvis,Clash,Damned,Stiffs,etc.....very exciting period of music. As for the store, they carry harder to find singles, boots, vinyl. In the late 70's & early 80's,there used to be a store like this(no cd's of course)every block and a half. Now they all go out of business due to our beloved internet. But that is hypocritical of me,because I spend so much cash on this stupid computer on collectibles.
