Hey speaking of walking, anyone have an impression of the St. Paddy's day parade they would like to share? Waste of time, or worth the spectacle?
You guys going to be on a float this year, Phillip? Imagine that, a Pogues float... I'm thinking you could use the theme of the raft on the cover of R,S&the L....with music blaring from the thing... and escorted by a bunch of Brendan Behan-looking people walking along side.... or maybe something as subtle as a long green Cadilac Eldorado convertable.![]()
If you have never been to the parade you have to go. It's the oldest parade every - this is the 245th annual. Just be there for the beginning. The Fighting 69th "Irish Briagade" always starts the parade, and it's fun to watch some of the pipe bands. I am always amused at the police band; they are playing the pipes, wearing the kilts and their guns. By the way I think the parade starts at 11:00. About an hour or two is more than enough. Then the bars start looking very good!
Well now I'll have to rethink it and give it a few hours. I love the pipe bands, and it might take a few hours to really sink in... and what are a few hours in the context of thing?
Thats the truth, what are a few hours. It will be a fine start to a fantastic day! I was very moved in 2002, the parade stopped and turned around towards the WTC for a few moments at the time the first plane hit on 9/11. Where we were stood there as a police group with flags for each of their fallen sons. Either direction we looked all you saw was a sea of flags. It's a good parade, even if it has no floats. You are right about the pipes, they go right to your soul!
