Best night of the year as well as a bit of a warning

Post Thu Dec 22, 2005 9:24 am

First thing first, I attended the Brixton show on the 20. Great performance, wild crowd. It was my first time to hear the Pogues live and I was not disappointed.

Secondly I would like to personally strangle the one pissing down my sisters pants just before the show. That was disgusting. (Although I am sure it was noone from the forum.)

Third: Great to meet you guys from Philly and Spain in Canterbury Arms. (Yeah I'd like to go in the stage door as well ...) Hope you enjoyed the evening.

However last I'd like to give a word of advice to people attending concerts anywhere. Until yesterday my hearing was undamaged and pure. No problems whatsoever. As a musician myself this is very important for me. My friends kept telling me that I should protect my ears when going places with loud sound but I kept putting it off. After all, those good earplugs cost a fortune. However, after last night at Brixton academy my left ear is nothing more than a very loud high pitched noise. It is now ringing for the third day in a row and I am getting very worried. Tis is nothing to gamble with. Therefore: Attend concerts, have fun! But protect your ears. It is easily done and in the long run you might find that proper earplugs are not that expensive.

PS! Fiona if you read this PM me alright?

You should see a doctor immediately. They can do something about it, but only in the first few days.

Well, I can tell you that both nights, I've seen guys relieving themselves outside the venue. I had found that in questionable taste, not to mention hygiene, but considering what happened to your sister, I guess those guys were the polite ones.

As for your ears - I've been putting cotton balls in my ears since shortly after starting to go to concerts, which is to say well over 20 years now (ouch). I know they're not quite as good as plugs, but I've never had a problem with post-show ringing, and my hearing seems to be as good as it ever was. If you're going to go to a lot of rock concerts, you have to protect your ears in some fashion. Trust me, you won't miss a note!

Ear protection, yes, and I seem to need it more as I get older. Though I haven't found it as much of a problem at Pogues gigs as at some others. But the scariest thing is when you forget you've got stuff in your ears, wake up the next morning and think you've gone deaf...

yeah it can be esp. bad when the dropkicks are on stage and scruffy wallace is playing the pipes. I had a ringing for a good 4 days after one of their shows I went to last year where I ended up right in front of a stack of speakers as they performed fields of athenry. Certainly good advice to all, always wear some kind of plug.

PISSING

Post Sat Dec 24, 2005 3:37 am

THAT WAS DISGUSTING / PISSING SOMWHERE WERE YOU SHOULD'T PISS ISN'T TOLERATED IN SCOTLAND ANYMORE //UP UNTIL THE HAMPDEM RIOT IN 1980 AFTER THE SCOTTISH CUP FINAL BETWEEN CELTIC AND RANGERS THIS BEHAVIOR WAS ACCEPTABLE / AFTER THAT IT WAS MADE UNACCEPTABLE AND INTOLERABLE/ BEFORE THEN PISSING PUBLICALLY WAS THE DONE THING AND IT WOULD HAVE BEEN RUDE NOT TO, SO THE GUYS PISSING AGAINST THE WALL SO LONG AS THEY WERE DISCREET IS PROBABLY THE LOWER END ,, BUT WHAT HAPPENED TO YOUR SISTER IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE , AND THIS GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHALLENGED/ PROBABLY WASN'T EVEN A POGUES FAN //

Etiquette is everything. If it is rude not to piss up against the wall, one must, of course, piss up against the wall. Her Majesty The Queen is a stickler for such things herself.
