Wolfetones opening for the Pogues on USA tour

Post Mon Dec 05, 2005 8:51 pm

Just a thought....they always play the US on paddys day, in fact 2005 was the 1st year in a long time they played Ireland on Paddys day. Of course the tones are'nt up there with Shane and the lads but would be a good opener

IMO The Tones are hopeless and I thought they split after their 19th farewell tour.

:D They're some jokers alright. Can't see it happening.

Just out of interest, what kind of crowds would they play too in the U.S on St. Patricks Day? Anyone know.

No f'ing way. My guess right now is that they will go it alone, and everyone will be happy. Now, there are a few bands I can think of that would push the shows even farther over the top, but in the end we all have our fantasy. Mine is either the Tossers, who I have never seen, but seem to have great integrity, and who IMHO embody the spirit of the Pogues --- and/or the Greenland Whalefishers, who hail from Norway, deserve some recognition, and have indicated that they have some interest in coming to the U.S. So, having WAY overthought this topic..... the above is pure fantasy.

Remember as you consider bands that traveling to the US of A to perform is much harder for musicians now than it was prior to September, 2001. It now requires fully permitted work visas for the entire band and crew, etc. In many cases these visas can take months to arrange and are prohibitively expensive for smaller acts to arrange (in fact in some cases it's becoming common practive for bands to travel here on tourist visas, rent instruments, and perform small venues in violation of their visas in order to try and make it happen).

So long story short - I'd be very surprised if a non-US band were an opening act.
