Indeed. And I thought they read more in Canada. Any other Canadians, we are not being rude; read more on these links and you will see that it just isn't in the numbers. Come to the US. We are not all that bad.

I was one of those 12 people at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. Great show and everyone there enjoyed themselves. I've got my tickets for NYC and hope it will be a great time

But we can only go where people are prepared to offer us realistic fees. We cost more than most promoters expect, but I'm afraid that's their problem, not ours. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but between 1984 and 1994, a lot of people made a lot of money from The Pogues, none of them actually in The Pogues. This time, it's different.

I started listening to The Pogues around '88 and have been to every concert I heard about. One. The Hell's Ditch tour with Joe Strummer in the Archaos Heavy Metal Circus tent at the old CNE stadium. And I only heard about it when CFNY did their daily listing of all that nights concerts less than 3 hours before show time. That was my 19th birthday (drinking age here), cancelled party plans and dragged all my buddies to the show, big crowd and the most fun concert I've ever been to. Now I'm married with a couple kids 3 hours NW of the city but the Pogues are one of very few bands I'd make a point of going to the big smoke for, and most of the others don't play together at all anymore.

It was only a few years after that there was a big Celtic music revival nationwide. Great Big Sea from Newfoundland still routinely sells out some largish venues like Molson Ampitheatre at 17 000 (perhaps a double bill to attract new fans?). It's not so much the Irish in Toronto either as much as 8 universities and even more colleges within a 2 hour drive.

I assure you the issue is not the number of Canadians in TO or elsewhere that would pay to see the band. It's strictly a matter of whomever you've had doing your promotion work here, well, they haven't. I have no doubt you could make some good coin here, just need someone competent to do some decent groundwork beforehand.

Toronto is cultural capital

Firstly, I can bring 12 people alone to a Pogues gig. Toronto is such a huge concert market. So many bands come through T.O. and even play on Monday nights because they know they'll still have a huge crowds. As someone was saying, U2 played 4 straight shows in Toronto. Heck, Rolling Stones call it their home! Anyway... I heard about the Chevron/Woods show in Toronto after it happened. Lack of promotion and marketing is the reason they had a small showing. I would've been there in a second!!! Anyway, I've seen Shane twice in Toronto, once at the Guvernment and the second at Lees Palace. Both times he had really solid crowds. If it was The Pogues, they could easily fill the Kool Haus, the Molson Ampitheatre in the summer, or even the ACC is promoted properly. Get your butts up to Canada!!!!!!!! We Canadians know how to drink!!!

Been a while since the band played Montreal. Good following in the maritimes too. Caught Woods and Chevron playing New Brunswick a couple of years back with the Mahones in a pub. Be great to see the whole roster without having to travel to Boston. Cheers.

I had a look around the local (Halifax, Moncton) venues on the www and couldn't find anything that would hold the numbers the US venues hold (with the exception of Arenas - blech!).

So I couldn't see it happeneing man. Boston, here I come!

I did catch Woods and Chevron here in a small venue in Halifax though, what a treat!

Pogues coming to Canada - Toronto?

Post Tue Feb 14, 2006 5:43 pm

Just noticed the tour - any hope of a Toronto date? Saw the Pogues several times in Toronto - best live shows I have EVER seen. Particularly liked the show in the late 80's in the circus tent with Joe Strummer at the helm (still like Shane too)!

No, it doesn't seem that the Pogues are coming to Canada, but this topic is already being discussed in the thread named "Canaduh" that's further down the list.

That's the same place where the posts in this here thread are going to be added soon as the site janitor gets 'round to his task of sweeping up the stray messages.
