In all seriousness though, not really a huge canadian market, except maybe in the celtic maritime provinces. Lets face it, Toronto has little to no cultural identity of its own where as Boston and NYC are major irish centres. Montreal is French, and Vancouver is on the other side of the country. Thats just how it is boyo, better grab some NYC tickets (lord knows i did) and saddle up because I don't see them coming over here again anytime soon.

What??? Toronto is probably the one of the most culturally diverse cities in the world. There is a huge Irish population here. U2 played 4 shows here in the fall , which sold out in a matter minutes. It's probably the hottest concert market in NA. I don't think the pogues would have any problem selling out a show here at the right venue.

12 people showed for Phil and Terry in Toronto? Well, it was a hell of a lot more than that when they played in Halifax, what an amazing night!

why such poor turnout? Well, when they played Halifax, I think I only heard about it for the first time within 2-3 days of the actual show, if not the actual day of the show. And only because my oldest sister happened to see a writeup in the paper.

I didn't even know they were touring. Many many times I search through the years looking for anything Woods related and can't find it. Last I had heard, since The Bucks was that he was advised not to perform anymore by a doctor, don't know if there's any ruth to it.

I think even for that show, an online search for the tour turned up very very little.

Never heard of the Peelers before that, and haven't heard from them since, they were awesome BTW.

I was also at that show at the Marquee. The Mahones have not had great crowds the last couple of times in town....no promotion at all.

The Woods/Cevron show was fantastic.

The Peelers are still around, they had a great album released last year called Liquordale.

... and Shite-n-Onions voted it best of 2004.

I only have one song from it, but at some point I'd like to pick it up. They passed through my town a half dozen times this year and things just kept getting in the way so I didn't go. They good live?

They are very good...lots of energy. They have only been around Halifax once but I was lucky to see them a few times in Ontario.

Lets face it, Toronto has little to no cultural identity of its own where as Boston and NYC are major irish centres. Montreal is French,

maybe you should face that Montreal is not simply "french"...the majority speak french, but out of that majority, most of them have celtic roots. Quebecois traditional music is very celtic. Montreal is another major irish center. The history of montreal is very inprinted with Irish and celtic roots.

maybe some irish-american are a bit too closed-minded when it comes to the history of the irish diaspora in north america.

Peace. :) But can you sign up two thousand people for a show at $50 a pop (American.... sorry), in a couple of days? Nobody is doubting you and your friends here are big fans. If the answer to the above question is yes, then the promoters and the Pogues might be interested. If not, then get to Boston.

Having seen the Pogues a couple of times in Toronto back in the eighties I reckon they would have no problem pulling in 2000 fans.. The last time I made it back to Toronto The Popes were playing and even they pulled in 3 or 400.. Shane didn't even show up!
Oh well hopefully the wife will let me go and "visit" my parents and I can make a couple of shows down in the US..

I wanted to come on here and say that Halifax could likely accomodate The Pogues. But when checking the seating capacity of a few of the places I've been, well, I guess I had no idea what 2000 concert fans looks like. The Marquee, where the Mahones usually perform whil in town, only holds 250 people. Yeah, not very many. The Rebecca Cohen Auditorium at Dalhousie University, though it looks large, only holda about 1050 people, seating capacity. Oh well. It was a pipe dream.

If there is a large enough venue in Halifax (or Moncton, New Brunswick), can the Pogues fill it? I honestly believe they could. Take the maritime Provinces together, we got Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island to draw from to fill a venue. Personally, I'm 3 hours from Moncton, and about 5 hours from PEI, so everything's pretty close. People would even likely travel from Newfoundland (makes the Maritime Provinces the Atlantic Provinces).

Failing The Pogues, an excellent venue for Woods and Chevron to play would be the +/- week long Celtic Colours music festival http://www.celtic-colours.com/core.php in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. They've had a number of performers from overseas come here to perform during Celtic Colours. Might be something to look into.

I'm not holding my breath.
