WOW!! I am completely blown away? And not that kind of blown away, yet. I never thought I’d get another chance to see the lads, and the whole (living, God, Gods, and Goddesses bless our departed) group, it sounds like. BRILLIANT!! NYC on ST. Paddy’s day with the Pogues!! Sounds like a very bad hangover waiting to happen. Sorry... had to rant. My 24 year, old underground hip hop loving, son is a Pogues fan and will come with me for his first Pogues concert. We could really use some advice on were to stay. Clean Close and Guinness on tap, should shut me right up. Truly I’m almost in tears.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You

Try the Milford Plaza on 8th Avenue/44th Street, which is where I often stay when I'm in New York on theatre business. It's not budget, but it is "tourist" priced and if you shop around well enough, you might get a really good deal.

More to the point, it's within footsteps of most Broadway theatres and, indeed, the Nokia.

Staying in NY

Post Sun Dec 04, 2005 5:31 pm

Also try the Washington & Jefferson on 51st Street and 8th Ave - it is very reasonable for New York (or so I have been told), and there is a nice pub within 20 paces of the entrance.

The Belvedere on 48th Street between 8th and 9th Avenue may also be worth a look.

Both are within a 10 minute walk of the Nokia. I live here in Hell's Kitchen and there are scores of other places as well.

Those are really expensive places to say... the cheapest is 150$ a night.
Are there cheaper places to stay that are near the Nokia Theatre?
Like Youth Hostels or something like this?

Thanks!

I don't know anything about any of the places listed here. The Times Square Hostel and Chelsea Star are the only two that are close to the Nokia, however.

You might also try the Skyline Hotel

725 10th Ave
Manhattan, NY 10019
(212) 586-3400

This is on 10th Avenue, and is bit further off the beaten tourist path, so the rates may be a little lower here. I've never been inside, but it looks OK from the outside. I hate to say it, but $150 per night in NYC on Paddy's weekend may be as good as it gets, at least for hotels.

Also, try the Travel Inn Manhattan, 515 West 42nd Street, (212) 695-7171. It's not much to look at, though.

Begin all Google searches with CHEAP HOTELS NEW YORK and then........really...........shop around. Avoid the ones that invite you to offer the maximum amount you want to pay and then enter you into a "lottery" so you don't know which hotel you've got until after you pay. Trust me, you WILL be given Mrs Meers's Hotel in Thoroughly Modern Millie///or WORSE!!

The cheapest "New York" hotels are almost invariably near airports or over in New Jersey. Fine, but you will be nowhere near Times Square.

I booked The Milford Plaza for $150 through Expedia so I don't have to drive home.

it doesn't really surprise me - the only promotion i have seen for these shows was on this site and other message boards. i think once the word gets out and more advertising comes in, these shows will begin to sell out - also, the shows are few months down the line so they have plenty of time...

Thanks all for you hotels/hostels suggestion.
Since I am all by myself, I don't really need a "real" hotel with just myself in the room.

I will probably end up in a hostels with some dorm beds.
If some other people are in the same situation, we could rent a room of 6-8-10 beds and fill it with Pogues fan!

That would be less boring... and would give the opportunity to meet other cool people from all over the world that all have something in common :)

I just called the 9:30 Club Box Office, they didn't have any info except to say that they announce new events every Thursday, so it's a safe bet they'll have the details posted then.
