Cait was definitely the best singer since Kirsty, although Kirsty still does it best.

They could always get my mum to sing; it's her favorite song!
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.

Fairytale Xmas for Charlotte?
Nov 27 2005
Nathan Bevan, Wales on Sunday

SHE'S got the Voice Of An Angel while he sounds like he doesn't just smoke 10 packets a day but he eats the ashtrays too!

Hardly a fairytale pairing then, but 19-year-old Charlotte Church could see in Christmas by sidling up to legendary Irish hell-raiser Shane MacGowan.

For the December 12 Cardiff date of their UK reunion tour, the dentally-challenged singer and his raucous band The Pogues are after a famous Welsh chanteuse to duet on their most famous track, Fairytale of New York.

And record industry insiders believe it could be our Charl.

The song - a seminal, sozzled, seasonal singalong which originally reached number two in 1987 and featured the vocal talents of the late Kirsty MacColl - is being re-released in an attempt to make it to the coveted top of the Yuletide pops.

All proceeds are to go towards helping homeless charities and the Justice For Kirsty campaign, set up by MacColl's family after she was killed by a powerboat while diving on holiday in Mexico in December 2000.

"We want the song to be a celebration of Kirsty's life," said The Pogues' Spider Stacey.

Meanwhile, Charlotte, who was just a nipper when the song first came out, said: "I'm really flattered. In theory, that would be good."

Cheers for that Zuzana.

Shane and Charlotte singing on the same stage would be something to behold

Also, why do they always say shane and his band :?:

MELUA TO SING MacCOLL'S LINES

Jazz singer KATIE MELUA is set to sing KIRSTY MacCOLL's lyrics from FAIRYTALE OF NEW YORK in a televised duet with THE POGUES.

The 21-year-old Georgian-born star will perform the 1987 Christmas classic with SHANE MacGOWAN on BBC TV show FRIDAY NIGHT WITH JONATHAN ROSS on 9 December (05). MacGowan has also invited Melua to sing the song during the group's UK tour over Christmas.

A source says, "Shane saw Katie on TV and thought she would be perfect.

"She will join the band for some of the live dates. The Pogues are planning a series of different women to sing the part during the tour.

Shamed supermodel KATE MOSS will sing on a recorded version of the song.

MacColl was tragically killed by a speedboat while diving with her two sons off the Mexican island of Cozumel in December 2000.
