Dublin and Christmas-What to do?

Post Mon Nov 07, 2005 3:44 am

Hi all.
I'm hauling it to Dublin from sunny Southern California for the 23 Dec show, and based on several factors, I'll be in Dublin through the holiday.
I understand Dublin is basically shut down on Christmas Day and St. Stephens Day and so I hope for some suggestions as to what may been seen and/or done on those days-besides drinking!
I'm celebrating Christmas on the 23rd of course, as I've seen Shane and the Popes twice, and the Pogues without Shane twice-he was usually "exhausted" by the time they hit L.A. So 23 Dec will be the best Christmas celebration ever!
Long-time lurker, first-time poster........so be gentle with me.

I've been following your posts from time to time, and I understand how you feel about USC, so I'm going with "No Comment".

I am a big fan of drink and music, at least!

"University of Southern California." Irishman evidently hates them.

Welcome, but beware of Dublin on bank holidays and holy days. Sometimes getting a drink and getting from one place to another is very difficult. I'd concentrate on finding somewhere nice for a few drinks and stick to that.

Just by advice of others, try to stay a few kilometers from any churches on Sundays and other religious holidays, unless you're wanting to attend. From one of my mate's experiences, it took him 45 minutes to get through one road because church was letting out.

Other than drinking, I'm fairly sure a few of the distilleries offer tours of their facilities. Also, travelling into the midlands to view the scenery - if you have the time/energy - is a lovely way to spend an afternoon.
“An’ this is the last of Brummy,” he said, leaning on his spade and looking away over the tops of the ragged gums on the distant range.
