Hotels near the Brixton show?

Post Mon Oct 31, 2005 1:28 am

Good evening, all.

I've got a quick question - I am flying in from Chicago to see the 20-Dec show - can anybody recommend a hotel near the venue?

Thanks in advance!

You may be better off staying in a more central location - nothing wrong with Brixton but apart from the gig you're unlikely to spend much time there. 'Victoria' is a more central location and very easy to get to Brixton, plenty of hotels and guest houses here.

What are your priorities ? Cheapest room? better location ? sight-seeing ?etc. etc. Not that i'm a travel agent or anything but PM me if you want help with areas / locations etc.

There aren't too many hotels near the Venue - the Pogues (those of us not already living in London) will be travelling in from Islington each day. The Victoria area is ok for bed and breakfast/guesthouse type places, yes. Expect to pay around £40 a night.

If ever there was a symbol of what a tremendous place Medusa is, this has got to be it.

What other band would be advising its fans where to find a good place to crash and how much to pay.

Mr C. - you're a gent! :)

Hmm, 40 pounds is certainly better than the rates I've been seeing - guess I should keep looking. Thanks, Mr. C! :)

many Thanks!!!

I was looking at Victoria as well, so I am glad to see that it also comes recommended here as well.

For what it's worth, I am arriving on Sunday morning and heading out Wednesday morning. So, my time is limited, but I'd like to take a look around London - Never been there before.

Hmmm....perhaps £40 was a bit optimistic of me. Certainly, you should get a BnB for £50 or so in the Victoria or Paddington areas. Regular hotel rooms are likely to cost £75-£125 at that time of year.

If you're not fussy about having en suite facilities, try the Regent Palace Hotel in Piccadilly Circus, a faded-glory marvel from an earlier London age - this joint was once top of the range! It's the most central hotel in the West End and, although it does have ensuite rooms, you may feel that shared facilities (shower room, WCs at regular intervals on every floor) may add to the gaiety of your stay. The hotel bar stays open late for residents. Fish around the net and you may get a room for about £45 single, £60 twin/double. Try this link for starters:

http://www.regentpalacehotel.co.uk/default.htm

As ever, early booking gets the best price.

That's great, peter! My first time too, and it's really the trip of a lifetime for me. I know I won't be able to see/do everything, but I'm hoping to do some running around. So those who have suggestions - please feel free to throw them around!

Thanks for the additional hotel info, Mr. C - the Regent Palace sounds wonderful, though I may have to hold out for those en suite facilities (I know, I know, spoiled Yank. Well, perhaps, but it's more being a tad too shy/self-conscious for that trip down the hall.)

Just a few short weeks away...

Ok first things first, I do NOT want to be held responsible for lack of a great night or bad nights kip here are some suggestions:-

Have a look down the list!

https://www.travelodge.co.uk/index.php - look for the £26 a night bookings, I think that may only be the Docklands area though.

How long does it take to get to Brixton academy from town?

Post Tue Nov 01, 2005 11:44 am

We are thinking of flying in the afternoon of the 20. I think we'll be landing at Gatwick at 17:25. Will that be sufficient time to make the concert? We probably should drop by a hotel as well on the way.

Ok lets have a think..

Jump on the Gatwick Express that takes you into Victoria (not sure where your hotel is perhaps you should try the http://www.sidneyhotel.com/ - cheap and cheerful) Then either get in a black Taxi (might cost you £10-£15) or go down to the tube and get the victoria line to Brixton or you can get on the number 2 bus from Victoria.

erm so lets think, 17:25 by the time you get your bags etc prob be on the 18:15 train get into vic at 18:45 book into the hotel and get your arse out by 19:45 - get to Brixton round 20:10?

oh let me know how you get on if you will! :))

I feel honour-bound to say that if I were getting in at 5.25, I would be hoping to make it to the show just in time WITHOUT stopping at the Hotel!

But Philip if he doesn't book into a hotel on the way in where will he sleep the night?

There is no room at the inn at my place - what about your sofa?
