Is that it?

Post Thu Jan 29, 2015 11:43 pm

Long time fan, infrequent visitor........will we ever see The Pogues again play live? What do we think? That 'history of The Pogues' book said Terry felt they went out with a whimper rather than a bang first time around, I think history may be repeating itself now.

A final farewell, if this is the end, would be fitting. Couple of dates in NYC, Dublin, Glasgow (Barrowlands) & London, glasses raised, memories made, cash counted, happy days.

Your plan sounds like a good one and if they do call it a day, that's the way to do it. I just hope they've a few years left in them!

Fat Lady could be preferable to some that have taken that role, I have to say Miss Finer I am thinking of you....that burlesque singer was pretty much the best that I have seen.

Anyhow, shame if it just fizzled to nothing, hope it does not. Hey, I am amazed that they have got this far, I can well understand that the time maybe is coming to lay it all to rest. I know Shane was a big Jam fan - their final tour showed the way, a proper full stop - not like The Eagles or Meatloaf, etc. - another farewell tour?

I am getting to a certain age now - Bobby Gillespie has given up drugs, Liam Gallagher has given up music, Lydon says Steve Jones is 500lbs, Prodigy seem like they are treading water, Glasto 2014 was depressing in it's conformity, Richard Ashcroft is counting his money.....where is the edge?

Any suggestions welcomed!

I saw him in Dublin recently buying a new beanie in Penny's.

But seriously, I agree fully with your sentiments. One last hurrah would be awesome.

Shane macgowan doesn't have the mental capacity to appreciate fans. He car barely talk anymore and I doubt he gives the slightest of fucks. The rest of the current pogues are just in it for the cash. That's crystal clear whether or not you wanna admit It. There will be no announcements cause there's no money involved just hang up the boots, live off the royalties and everyone else can get fu*ked.

For real. We should be happy they get paid, as it's the only way this large, internationally distributed band was able to reunite and give us the (mostly pretty good) reunion shows we've had. Love don't pay the bills.

Well if i'm being truthful I'd have to say the band knew of Philips condition and had their final go at it.

Their final tour of the US was called " The Parting Glass"
From 2010 on they played multiple dates in Gremany, Belgium, multiple Neatherlands dates, Russia, Dublin, Scotland, had a few Australian dates. They recored a live DVD in Paris... All in all, being honest with myself I believe that was the last hurah.

Not sure that I entirely agree with NJR's analysis. The Rolling Stone article is from February 2011. There have been a fair few gigs since then, including (off the top of my head, this isn't meant to be a definitive list) the Paris gigs for the DVD, the big one-off O2 gig in December 2012 (was that Mr C's last gig with the band?), the RS&L short Christmas tour in December 2013, assorted gigs in the UK, Japan and Europe in summer 2014.

If that's the lot, I'm sad about it but happy that I was lucky enough to get to see them a few times in those last couple of years (with a fair amount of help at times, for which I'm eternally grateful!). I still owe Fr McGreer a few pints, at least.

Spider's tweet about there being no Christmas gigs last year didn't hint that there never would be in the future. There may or may not be. Perhaps that is the end of it. The current lack of any signs of activity feels like it might be. But to be honest I don't think any of us know. And we've thought it was all over several times before, and been proven wrong...

Everyone has different opinions of course, but my own interpretation of the song and the role, burlesque and brutal just doesn't fit. Maybe for other songs in the repertoire but hardly FoNY.

But whatever, I would love to see another gig.

Gotta be 2015.
