Re: The Pogues Summer, 2014
"Because the football's on" is most definitely not an adequate excuse for missing a Pogues gig. Priorities please, people.

No surprises last night set list wise. They did play 1000s though. The crowd took a long time to get going and I wonder how much under capacity the field was. I thought it a little odd seeing all the people in camping chairs sitting around to watch the gig - but hey they showed up and gave their support so you can't knock that. I've never been a big fan of the outdoor gig that starts in daylight but a pogues gig is a pogues gig and so what if it was awkward to get too .......
No substitute guitarist last night - just Terry doubling up on an acoustic looking guitar when the song needed it then reverting to mandolin on the others. The gig was bolstered by the same faces of the brass section who were excellent as always and always add the depth of sound live that I think we have all got used to. Shane was on great form - he held it together well but looked like he was really struggling with his tray at the endhe couldn't bend it , dent it or anything.
I was pleased when leaving that there were loads of people leaving the field cos when we went in there wast that big a crowd there and I hate it when the band play and its under supported or the venue is too big.
Think maybe I'll go to the France festival thing maybe - I wonder if there is anything else in the pipeline though - melkweg maybe - or are the dates announced all we are going to get ???? Anyone ???
