Three strikes and im out(maybe).
Just arrived home fro Rock in Idro and it was really good.Arrived Saturday lunch and got straight to the venue for some good and not so good bands and soaked up the sun and the 5 euro beer til nearly time for the headliners.Stood quietly with some Italian Pogues fans and when they came on it was so good to see them, though Shane has put a lot of weight on and looked a bit Simon Cowellish with his high waistband and braces.Streams was first,i looked at my son.
This isn't right is it.
No he said.
Are we going in?
COME ON!!!!!!!!!
Into the fray, what a night, didnt see much more of the Pogues, saw more of the floor, down twice,Joe down once, but hey,who cares, thats why we went.Great performance as usual and well received by the locals although we were talking to Germans Dutch etc and one fine chap was in the melee and had gone especially to see them in Europe. He was Canadian!!!!!!!All in all not bad for a 63 year old,but if im lucky enough to see them again and I go down more than twice its three strikes and after that im at the back.Apologies to my our new friends from Milano ,ill buy the next round if we see you again someday.

Yep. As well, of course, as one of those famous renditions of Sally Mac.

Braces??? Don't you need teeth to have braces? Or is this word have a different meaning to Europeans?

We say braces, you say suspenders...

Although we also use braces for the teeth thing. And suspenders means something different over here, and I imagine that Shane doesn't usually wear those. Not in the public arena, at least.

Language, eh?

Okay, that makes sense. I will ponder the other meaning of suspenders while at work today and see if I can figure it out! Thanks!

Amazing just back from Italy and they really did themselves proud, lots of great old tunes all well performed, yes Shane did catch the eye in his bright red shirt and braces but who are we to knock. He and all the others really put their all in, it was great from start to end and the Italians in the heat of the evening enjoyed every minute. I also met the token Canadian and his wife as well as lots other fellow Pogues fans from Ireland and Italy and spent lots of time drinking beer and sharing stories. If the Pogues can get Gogol Bordello for a support again make sure you see them. Oh and no I do not know who played guitar have looked at photos since and am still none the wiser.

Sounds fantastic! Any recollections of a set list? Any new old gems played?

The identity of the guitarist has yet to be revealed,i'll be at Forest Live next Saturday, then i can see for myself.Someone has just said James Walbourne to me,i know that he is performing at a festival in Sherwood Forest on the same day, avec The Rails. If there are any aspiring Hank Marvins or Bert Weedons out there, maybe they should head for Thetford next weekend!

It certainly won't be Mr Walbourne at Thetford, unless he's learnt the art of being in two forests at the same time...

I'd be surprised if he's playing guitar for The Pogues this summer, as he's touring with The Rails (who are really worth catching if you get the chance, and have a great new album out). They're opening for The Pogues at Bristol, I think, for you lucky people going there.

[Looking out at thunderstorm and torrential rain over East Anglia this morning, hoping it doesn't do this at Thetford Forest next week!]
