Although I am obviously delighted that the band are once again doing a few shows at Christmas which I will attend. I am surprised and a bit shocked with the fact that a central member of the band is seriously ill and yet it has n't really been mentioned in relation to this tour. Is Phil going to be able to perform at these gigs in any form or is he just too un well at this point? Or has Phil taken leave from the band?
Phil is someone that has always had the time for the fans on this forum and in many other mediums through out the years while possibly none of the members would, which none of them are obliged to. However this is an obligation Phil took upon himself to communicate so willingly with his fans and also with such enthusiasm.
Hopefully Phils position in regards to these shows can be confirmed in the near future.

I wish Phil all the best and hope he is trucking on as best he can.

Who would you most like to hear playing support to the pogues ? My favourite would have to be Nigel burch and the flea pit orchestra

Spin,
Philip actually announced the Tour dates on this forum and I am sure that he played a huge part in organising these gigs. It goes without saying that we would all dearly love to see Philip at these shows.
When Phil announced on this forum that "This time it is lethal" we all accepted the news with heartbreak and sorrow and I am sure many, if not all, thought that we had seen our last Pogues gig. The news of a tour released a few days ago, in my opinion shows the stature of a remarkable man.

Moose,
I am aware Phil announced this tour on this thread. He has always given the members of this forum a heads up on up coming gigs.
Don't misunderstand my post, I am also delighted these gigs are taking place. Theres no other band I would travel all over Europe to see so I hope they can
find a way to continue.
I suppose its a bit difficult or peculiar for such good news to be announced along side such sad events and goings on.
Without a doubt Phil has proven to be a remarkable and incredibly brave man.

I don't presume to speak for Phil, his plans, or his desire/ability to travel. In the announcement regarding his illness' return, however, it was made reasonably clear that he is not an active participant in either of his bands for the foreseeable future:
Chevron, who was last year part of the releases The Pogues In Paris on Polydor and the Radiators' Sound City Beat on Chiswick, is currently taking a break from both bands. The Pogues are on a prolonged time out, emerging only in support of matters relating to their 30th anniversary this year

It's possible that Philip will attend one (or several) shows, and may even participate on stage. I think it's a reasonably safe assumption that another guitar player will be on the stage trying very, very hard to fill some mighty big boots.

The band was great, the singer was not particularly clearheaded, tears were shed for the Famine. And I quote....

Cheers dzm and thanks for your insight. I would have thought it would be very difficult for Phil to participate in these gigs due to his illness.
However with nothing been mentioned on any mediums promoting these gigs in regards to Phil, I was just curious what the situation was.
However nothing would surprise me considering the determination Phil has shown in the past and in recent months.
If there is a stand in guitar player at the helm, I suppose all we can do is wish them well in the impossible task of filling those mighty boots of Mr. Chevron.

I don't know if this has been asked, but who will be singing "A man you don't meet every day"? :D

I'd like it pretty much if it was the original singer... and if she sang FONY too, that would be superb.

By the way, it's a pity that Philip won't be there, I hope you're as good as you can these days.

I suppose as Philip himself hasn't mentioned the state of his health recently it's not for us to speculate in such a public forum.

I have to say that when he first announced the tour i was very shocked at the choruses of woohoos, yipees and smiley faces that followed. Did that appear somewhat insensitive? I think so. However, i know that through private forms of contact many of the regular faces around this raft have expressed their mixed feelings.

Like you though, Spin, i too will be raising a glass to Philip in December 8)
