In the summer of 1996 when Spider was on sickleave, just before The Pogues decided to disband, they played some concerts without him.
One of those concerts were at the Montreux festival. I saw this gig list at the Montreux database:

Jem FINER (banjo)
Darryl HUNT (bass)
Andrew RANKEN (drums)
James MCNALLY (acc/kb)
David COULTER (mandolin/fiddle)
Jamie CLARKE (guit)

1. MODERN WORLD (02:55)
2. MY BABY`S GONE (02:45)
3. LIVING IN A WORLD WITHOUT HER (03:12)
4. PACHINKO (02:45)
5. ONCE UPON A TIME (03:30)
6. BIG CITY (02:21)
7. TUESDAY MORNING (03:11)
8. TOSSPINT (03:17)
9. AMADIF (01:47)
10. ORETOWN (03:46)
11. REPTILE (01:52)
12. TUESDAY MORNING TOSSPINT AMADIF ORETOWN PEPTILE 1000`S ARE SAILING (04:50)
13. PONT MURABEAM (03:19)
14. TRAIN KEPT ROLLING (03:02)
15. 4 O`CLOCK IN THE MORNING (04:30)
16. DIRTY OLD TOWN (03:50)
17. BRIGHT LIGHT (05:10)
18. LOVE YOU TILL THE END (04:50)
19. STAR OF THE COUNTRY DOWN (02:36)
20. FIESTA (02:31)
21. ANNIVERSARY (04:05)
22. IT'S HARD (05:13)
23. BLUE HEAVEN (05:12)

Anyone know who was the singer at this time or did they share ?
Kind of strange...The Pogues without both Spider and Shane...

Christ I reconise hardly any of the list, I would of send Andrew Ranken, but he played drums so he couldn't but I'm goning say maybe one the two new lads cause I've never heard Jem or Daryl singing any Pogues songs, was there a reason they couldn't do more of Shane's songs?

Simon, Darryl's vocals are all over Hell's Ditch (i.e. House of the Gods). Seems like most of the Pogues could be competent lead singers.

This was about the time when i saw the pogues for the first time. They were supporting the levellers in sheffield. I Think Spider was with them on that day though.

oh right, my bad, but it's such an odd stage for the Pogues to be at, barely reconisable line-up and set-list, I'd love to of seen just to see how it went ya know.

I know, Simon, I was just referring to his backing vocals which are featured quite prominently on Hell's Ditch and which can be heard especially well on this particular song.

btw - who do we hear on Train of Love?

"Train Of Love" has joint lead vocals an octave apart by Jem and myself. I'm pretty sure Andrew and Spider (and possibly Darryl) are in there somewhere too.

Vocals duties were shared by Darryl Hunt and Jem Finer, with Andrew Rankin stepping in on two tracks and James McNally on another.

The above track list is way out. This is what was played:

The Sunnyside Of The Street (Darryl Hunt vocals)
Sayonara (Darryl)
Living In A World Without Her (Darryl)
Boys From The County Hell (Darryl)
Once Upon A Time (Jem Finer)
Big City (Darryl)
Tuesday Morning (Darryl)
Tosspint (Jem)
Amadie (Andrew Rankin)
Oretown (Jem)
Repeal Of The Licensing Laws
Thousands Are Sailing (James McNally)
Pont Mirabeau (Jem)
When The Ship Comes In (Darryl)
Tuesday Morning (Darryl)
Turkish Song Of The Damned (Andrew Rankin)
Dirty Old Town (Darryl)
Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah (Darryl)
Star Of The County Down (Andrew)
Streams Of Whiskey (Darryl)
Bright Lights (Jem)
Love You 'Till The End (Darryl)
Fiesta (Jem)

Seeing as they were without Spider and about to disband, it was a surprisingly good performance.
