John Powers wrote:Only thing that was left unclear to me on the fifth instalment, is Spiders partner Sarah or Louise? Could be that I´m only misunderstanding something, but I find both names being referenced..

From Installment One:
"Spider, with a new, rather fetching, quasi-Steve Marriot hair-cut (an opening came up, with Sarah, nobody but whom he trusts to go near his hair)"

From Installment Five:
"though Spider has preserved well, with his fetching Steve Marriott coiffure, because, as I mentioned earlier, Sarah, his regular, had an appointment become free the week before last"

"I was talking with Spider and his partner Louise at breakfast"

So Sarah is his hairdresser. Louise is his main squeeze (and a charming conversationalist as well).

Thanks James-fun reading...Glad to hear you all survived. Hopefully, I'll get another chance to see you all a little closer to home. My hair has changed over the years to more like Mr. Chevrons..No Steve Mariott cuts any more. Cheers!

Aha. Cheers DzM. It was my misunderstanding, just as I suspected.

Hairdressers

Mine used to be Gerry on Larchmont Boulevard and it's still difficult walking past his gaffe, hoisting a wave and shouting a 'How's it going?' through the screen door, when I've no cause to go in there any more, not now I've got my burstenfrisur machine. It's a passage and a wrench and a loss - is hair loss.

mine is Gerard S., a Frenchman with a German name, who remembers you after a benefit gig performed by the Radiators in the late '70s in London attended by Princess Margaret, who was a fan... 8) and he charges a hell of a lot more than Joe The Spaniard.

Yes. :D I thought it was pretty cool.

btw, this was back in the day. I was told you were enjoying "dark" beer?! and Schnapps (?!?)

I voir dire'd him pretty thoroughly.

Of course, he could have been mistaken (it's been a few decades now) but he was quite adament.

it is a small world.

The gig was a benefit show for a charity of Princess Margaret's.
My understanding is that she liked the Radiators and wanted you to play.
She was probably not the person extending the invitation.

I share your scepticism Simon. While Margaret was certainly a party girl and "a bit of a goer", I don't remember her being a Rads fan. More to the point, I doubt the Rads would ever have agreed to perform for one of her charities.

But there's no smoke without fire - at one stage the Radiators were managed by David McConachie, who was certainly part of the Big House set.
