Yes....Terminal 5 was alot of fun.

I do like Streams Of Whiskey....but won't be able to make it in Saturday. I usually see them when they come through Montclair.

I'm also reduced to a cover band this year. I love a nice springtime drive south to Seattle or Portland....

You can drown in there. Someone should probably rescue him.

Yep, this spring pretty well sucked...no Pogues, and, somewhat oddly, neither the Dropkicks or Flogging Molly made a stop here in St. Louis. Seems like most years we have one of them, if not both. Oh well, I'm still holding out hope for some Pogues dates later in the year...

There's a hole in my calendar and a bigger hole in my soul...missing the presence of the Pogues here at this time of year.

it's the first coffee of the day - the missus is off to work - I've got the Pogues on the hi-fi.
Wish I was standing on a New York City Sidewalk in the midst of a crowd right now, pulling my coat tight, eyes misting up at the sound of the drums and pipes, and looking forward to a whisky this afternoon, and a gig tonight with all my Medusan compatriots!
Have a great St Jimmy Cagney Day, all of you!
And of course a big hello to Philip, James, Terry, Shane, Andrew, Spider, Jem and Darryl.
and a big 'Up Yours' to Joey C 8)
We'll see you all soon, somewhere! - gotta go jump around the living room - Sally Mac just came on! :D

OK so NYC St Paddy's Day......most of you know the routine ...plenty of drink, good music, always a fun time for all, right?.....ehh this year not so much.
The Mrs and I get to BB King's on 42nd all set to see the Pogues cover band Streams of Whiskey. The have two venues inside and Black 47 is playing the other room. Duely noted, I think maybe I woulda seen them if no Pogues only cover band existed and we head on in ready for a great time.....
1st problem, the room is constructed so if it's crowded (and a Saturday St Pat's is always crowded) you can NOT get to the bar. Wonderful, Ok no problem, we'll get a table... have a few appetizers... few beers and then get up and dance. 2nd problem, waitress tells us they have NO Guinness ?!?! What kinda bullshit establishment has NO GUINNESS at 8PM on a SATURDAY that happens to be ST PADDY'S DAY?? IN NYC!?!? You have got to be shittin me! So the waitess decides to bring me a Chocolate stout and wants to charge me $8 for it. Yeah, cause they taste soooo much alike, no thank you.
3rd problem, the band comes on ...... don't get me wrong they're not bad at all. Fire the bass player and the probably awesome BUT somehow either no one notices the bass is set louder then the singers mic or everyones already wasted and they don't care. It's not like "oh that bass is a little off" It's "holy shit can we unplug the bass players amp" LOUD. We deal with the nearly 2 hours of Pogues on Max Bass and head home with a splitting headache.
Mr C please don't make me do this next year!!!!

I am taking the long view on this. I prefer quality over quantity. I think the East Coast has been pretty lucky-getting shows in 2006-2009, 2011. Can't blame others for wanting a piece of the action. I think it best that the Pogues do 10-20 shows a year and hopefully it doesn't become drudgery for them. The Pogues and the Super Bowl are the only things in my pre-nup, every other year is fine with me.

And as far as my friend NJR, aren't you a little too old for going out??!!
I spent St. Patrick's day negotiating for Transformers toys for my son and his cousin at an Irish Restaurant (McDonalds), followed by 4PM Mass (jeez, when did they change all the words to the prayers-Professsion of Faith, etc.) and followed by watching Puss n Boots. Missed the booze/revelry at times but not the accompanying hangover.

You're absolutely right Mike, the East Coast has been very lucky. Totally selfish on my part.

Too OLD for going out?!?!? Absolutely not. I'm of the "age is just a number" crowd. I had limited time out when my kids were young. Now we have no one needing their noses wiped or to be tucked into bed. Ten or so years ago I was in your shoes. It's pretty much how we planned things (not that planning anything ever matters) We do many many things, after all St Pat's on a Saturday is only once every 6 years ? right.

Count me in as another with a hole in my soul, missing the Pogues this Spring... March just isn't the same without them. It's something my daughter and I have shared each year the Pogues have been in NYC. We settled for Flogging Molly, Dropkick and the Tossers, but they didn't compare to the thrill and overwhelming feeling of pure joy we experience with the Pogues. My daughter and I will always have that bond and I thank you.
