There are a lot of cool bars in Detroit and a lot of GREAT restaurants. What exactly are you looking for? We have corner/townie bars, Irish Pubs, restaurant/bars, breweries, bars where local & touring bands play, etc....

A couple of my favorites are Gusoline Alley (in Royal Oak), Danny's and the New Way Bar in Ferndale, and in Detroit I like the Bronx Bar, The Comet, 2500 Club, Magic Stick, Lager House, Nancy Whiskey, Corktown Tavern, Jacoby's...to name a few. Stay away from Hockeytown - terrible beer and whiskry and food. But the Town Punp is right around the corner and a great place to drink. The State Bar isn't bad either - a block down next to the Fillmore.

You can get great food at Slow's BBQ (be prepared for a wait), Union Street (sandwiches, pasta, etc...), and Southern Fires (BBQ/no alcohol). Right near the venue is a great Asian/Sushi place called Ronin, and Little Tree is the same cuisine and close as well. Lots of restaurants in Royal Oak but it seems like I always end up at one of those 2. While in Detroit try to grab a coney at Lafayette Coney Island (as seen in the intro to Hung, & on the Food Network) which is 24 hrs, I think, and there's also coney islands all over the metro area. There's a Mediterranean place in Ferndale called Anita's that is supposed to be great, but I haven't been there. Ferndale is just south of Royal Oak with lots of bars & restaurants at the intersection of Woodward & 9 mile. Try the Onion Roll in Royal Oak for an old-school diner with greant sandwiches I am told (pastrami anyone?).

I could go on and on....

Wow! Thanks. We definitely will hit up a few of those on Friday/Saturday... any clue if one of these pubs shows English Premier League matches in the early AM? My google searches have fallen flat, I'm afraid.

Yes...Slow's is our #1 choice for eating out in the city. It gets busy as hell though. They just opened up a carry-out only location up on Cass near Wayne State. I higly recommend it.

Meanwhile....the show in Detroit is now Sold Out!

Shit! I'm moving from Italy to U.S. at the end of January so I waited because I wanted to buy my ticket in the U.S.. It would have been better to buy it on-line...

Okay, that last post sounded really lame and didn't radiate the urgency and passion of my plea.

I read something about The Pogues doing a Fall tour that would include west coast dates. Can someone fill me in? I'm thinking about seeing Flogging Molly in Oakland a few days after St. Patricks day (my boyfriend is considering driving me up) but oh what I would give to see The Pogues... don't know how much he would like if I got on a plane to NYC for St. Patricks day. Not that a 19 year old college student can afford it anyway... Damn. Dreams :/

Long story short! When are The Pogues coming to California?

If all is good after the Mayan calender ends in December 2012 you may be in luck.
