I delivered the bad news to a fellow veteran of the last four years of New York City shows. His quote follows and sums it up well:

"And to Mr. C., some new lyrics to your masterpiece:

"Thousands are wailing
across the western ocean
where the Roseland waits in silence for
The Pogues to return once more..."
Sins forgiven and celebrations!

Patty - short for Patrick, often used by crazy Americans to refer to St. Patrick

That would be Patsy then I think you mean.

Patty as we all know is the lesser known term for a pie - though God knows why a pie need to be called anything else.

Therefore Saint Patty must be the saint of Wigan. Ha Ha

I thought the term for the pie was "Pasty"? or "Pastie"? As for Patty being only a girls name I'm afraid many men would take umbridge on this side of the Pond with that thinking.
Patty would be one of those dual gender names depending on spelling like Chris, Sam, Billie or in some cases Sue

Isn't a "Beef Patty" a description of a beefburger?

But listen, Walshy, the Americans invented St Patrick's Day, at least in the sense of it being an Irish festival and not just a holy day of obligation. What they call it is their business. I think we can allow that, considering the best we could manage in Ireland for the best part of two centuries was the closing of the pubs on March 17.

Ahhh Mr C you're always on the ball, I wasn't even thinking of the BEEF patty. Of course I'm just trying to be informative, not claiming one way is better or worse just trying to explain what the goings on in these parts as best I can. :D

I can certainly appreciate and can reluctantly accept the band's wanting to take a break and missing what's become an annual ritual over the past few years. The selfish part of me badly wants the show in March - it's become an addiction. So this news is disappointing. But rest assurred, when the time comes, I and many others will be there. We can only hope it's soon...
