Everyone is entitled to take time off. I think The Pogues toured pretty steady throughout all of 09, leaving little time for rest.

If it was me though, I would stick with the staples each year, work in a far away trip, and leave time for a break. I should think East Coast USA along with X-mas UK would be a staple.

Anyway, see you next time.

I'll just leave this here:

If you can play on the fiddle
How's about a British jig and reel?
Speaking King's English in quotation
As railhead towns feel the steel mills rust water froze
In the generation
Clear as winter ice
This is your paradise

There ain't no need for ya
There ain't no need for ya
Go straight to Hell boys
Go straight to Hell boys

Y'wanna join in a chorus
Of the Amerasian blues?
When it's Christmas out in Ho Chi Minh City
Kiddie say papa papa papa papa papa-san take me home
See me got photo photo
Photograph of you and Mamma Mamma Mamma-san
Of you and Mamma Mamma Mamma-san
Lemme tell ya 'bout your blood bamboo kid.
It ain't Coca-Cola it's rice.

Straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Oh Papa-san
Please take me home
Oh Papa-san
Everybody they wanna go home
So Mamma-san said

You wanna play mind-crazed banjo
On the druggy-drag ragtime U.S.A.?
In Parkland International
Hey! Junkiedom U.S.A.
Where procaine proves the purest rock man groove
and rat poison
The volatile Molotov says-

Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Straight to Hell

Oh Papa-San
Please take me home
There ain't no need for ya,
There ain't no need for ya

Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys

Can you cough it up loud and strong
The immigrants
They wanna sing all night long
It could be anywhere
Most likely could be any frontier
Any hemisphere
No man's land
Ain't no asylum here
King Solomon he never lived round here

Straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys
Go straight to Hell, boys

Oh Papa-San
Please take me home
Oh Papa-San
Everybody, they wanna go home now

OK - 9 months of hope and anticipation dashed to smithereens...guess I'll renew the prozac...

Mr C...please give us a shout as soon as you have an inkling as to when the Pogues might be coming back to the East Coast...a very large part of what gets us through is looking forward to a visit from you...

and please come soon - we really miss you!

Well, here's hoping that maybe Shane will make it over to the East Coast in 2010 for either the Zeppelin reunion tour or fronting the new Aerosmith!! 8)

Japan in October has not become a fixture though we did it twice, and indeed, after we reformed for the UK/Ireland in December 2001, we missed out Christmas 2002 and 2003.

We wouldn't want to be taken for granted!

I think it is extremely important for us to fully appreciate, understand and yes, accept this post. It is a monumental undertaking to launch a Pogues tour, especially outside of the UK and Ireland. We have been very, very lucky in the US and should not feel entitled. Sure we LOVE seeing them live, but I definitely look upon it as some kind of insane, I can't effing believe it, pinch me, kind of gift every time a tour is announced. That being said... <sigh>

What horrible news. Is this definite or is there still a glimmer of hope that there will be an east coast tour?

Oh No! We missed last year because of a new baby :( I'll have to start thinking of new ideas for a rocking anniversary present for 2010. Here's hoping for 2011 East Coast show!

Here's to hoping the band gets the due rest and time off, much needed and well deserved after a quite busy 2009.
Can't say i'm not completely gutted by the news. Looking forward to the day the Mrs and I can see you play again.

I've seen the Pogues the last three years in Boston in March, and am hoping that I get to see them this year. I'm very disappointed. All the shows were great, and last year's was the best. Boston & New York probably have the highest per capita concentration of Pogues fans in North America. Extremely relevant & energizing. Come back soon!

Just seems a little odd for an Irish group to "take time off" during st pattys day celebrations.

Well, there you go............it's safe to say The Pogues are considerably more than a little odd and a great deal more than an Irish group.

Not surprised the band might not play the East Coast, everyone deserves a break that's for sure. We'll be waiting patiently for the next time the band plays over here!

Happy Holidays to Philip and the rest of the band that read the forum.

That's why we love you so much...have a great show tonight and hope you all have a safe and happy Christmas. Get plenty of rest and come back soon - I don't think we could take another year without the Pogues!
