Re: Meeting Place on the 9th

Short answer seems to be that no, as yet there is not a consensus as to where people will be meeting up on either the 9th or the 10th. An Irish pub in the neighborhood has yet to open. There are several options in the area near the 9:30 Club. Two of the places that have been discussed recently are DC9 (at 1940 9th Street, NW)

http://www.dcnine.com/portal/

and the Saloon (at 1207 U Street, NW). I'm not able to find a website for the Saloon, but here's a Washington Post write-up:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dy ... id=1027857

There are several other options in the area, but these two are among those that open early (DC9 opens at 5:00 PM and the Saloon opens at 11:00 AM).
They are also within about a three-minute walk from the 9:30 Club and are near the Vermont Avenue exit from the nearest Metro station (U Street/African-American Civil War Memorial/Cardozo).

This has been discussed previously, but I'll raise it again in case anybody coming to DC from outta town missed it:

If you are going to the Thursday, 9 March show, because of the late start time and the Metro's weekday hours, taking Metro home will not be an option if you plan to see the full show. According to what Mr. Chevron has reported having heard from the tour manager, the Pogues will be taking the stage at or near 11:00 PM.

http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/Stations ... station=73

The last trains will leave at 11:50 PM (toward major connection points, downtown and toward the west) and at 12:21 AM (toward the east). Plan on taking a cab, walking, anything other than taking the Metro home if you're coming on Thursday night.

If you're going to Friday's show, the final trains leave at 2:50 AM and at 3:21 AM, so you'll probably have very little problem getting home via Metro on Friday night/Saturday morning.

If you're taking Metro, be aware that there are two exits from the U Street/A-A Civil War Memorial/Cardozo station). The exit nearer the 9:30 Club is the Vermont Avenue exit.

My vote is for DC9. I've been there before and I liked it fine. It's very very close to the 930, so if your'e driving you only have to park once.

My photo is in the forum gallery.
Hope to see everyone at DC9 at 5?

I'll be there on the 10th. Coming in from Michigan with 2 friends, one flying in from Minneapolis. We have 2 tickets and are desparate for a 3rd so if anyone can help a long-time fan from the midwest with 1 ticket it would be greatly appreciated... also looking for the pre-show meetup!

If you are looking for tix, you might want to check out the 9:30 Club message board.

I've seen quite a few people selling tickets for face value.

DC-9

Post Wed Mar 08, 2006 11:19 pm

DC-9 it is!

Nice looking place, and it happens to be right next door to Etete, which is my favorite Ethiopian restaurant in DC.

I'll probably be there sometime after 5 and sometime before 9 on the 9th. No ticket yet for the 10th, but don't let my absence stop everyone else from having a good time!

Sounds great, we'll be at DC9 between 5 and 7, depending on what we do for dinner. See you all there.
Cheers!

Heh, first and only Ethiopian place I ate at was Etete! I was waiting for DC9 to open up. I asked what's traditional, and good for a first timer. They brought out a dish with cous-cous, lamb, and those bread-pancake things. No silverware. I had to ask how to eat it! The waiter laughed, shown me how, and I had a excellent and cheap meal.

Anyway, I'll be at both shows (and NJ the 11th!), but I have to be functional *early* Friday, so no drinking for me Thursday. On Friday though, game on!! I'll be at DC9 with a dark tan flat cap and either Flogging Molly T or Shane & the Popes footie shirt.

See ya's there!

I might be right there with you, Paul! And I have had this conversation with others here, and maybe we should develop a clicking solution like they did at D-Day. One double click is answered by two double clicks. Or maybe just say MEDUSA! and hope for a response?

"My name is MacRua, and I don't give a fuck about your rules."

Voila. Magic passphrase that can be excahnged at various meetups with little fear that it'll accidentally be used by others that are not in the know. And if the hot bit of crumpet you try it out on ends up not knowing the phrase you can pass it off as your real name, have a great alias for the night, and be justified in handing out fake phone numbers without guilt.
