The Christmas gigs...

Good afternoon all,

I hope I'm about to strike the right tone with this,and not come across as a nostalgic, regressive fool.

I really miss the Christmas gigs. And I genuinely mean REALLY miss them. They were the perfect start to the festive period. So full of life, energy and emotion. I'll never enjoy gigs as much those ever again, which saddens me for more than one reason. I watch the YouTube footage of some of the gigs I attended and would LOVE just one more run at the Manchester apollo.

And there we go, that's it! I hope you all know this is a genuine post, I know there'll be plenty of you thinking similar things. X

Me too. And remember how about this time of year we were beginning to watch out for tour dates and when tickets would go on sale. And work out how the feck to get there. Those were indeed the days.

I must add though....Obviously I was at all the other shows over the years but 1991-03-17 Barrowlands Glasgow was their best ever gig but has never surfaced as a bootleg unfortunately

The atmosphere was electric as Celtic had just fucked Rangers hours before the gig

You're not alone, Mickeyjoe. Every December since the lads finished up touring i wish i could go back in time to The Canterbury in Brixton for the meet up and pre-gig pints with all the great people. And I genuinely mean ALL THE GREAT people i met through this forum. Too many names to mention here but they will always be lifelong friends. Yes of course the gigs were fantastic (with the odd exception ) but the anticipation and traveling over from Ireland to London or Glasgow was even better. Those two cities were the ONLY places to see the Christmas shows. Forget Dublin. The crowd, venues and atmosphere were shite.

There was something really special about walking into The Brixton Academy. Looking up to the blacked-out ceiling above the ornate facade of the stage and thinking it looked like we were all under the open sky. Making your way down to the front just in time for 'Straight To Hell'.

When 'Streams Of Whiskey' was belted out, it really was Christmas.

The first time I went to Brixton with the hazardettes, when we first got into the venue it was so cold that they actually thought we were under the open sky. (Always had to arrive early to get a space on the wheelchair ramp.) Things warmed up when the band came on...

Indeed. And at least there's still the tiny thought that maybe one day they might just do it again. However unlikely/impossible it might seem. It's the hope that... hm.

Apologies, my intention wasn't to start a conversation then run!

I saw the trailer for the Shane doc yesterday and it all came flooding back worse than ever!!! What an antidote to this year a Christmas tour would have been.

Sadly, against all the hope I hold that it may happen again, I'm well aware it won't. But what memories to hold onto. Priceless.
