There's managers and band members who know the answer to this. People here have contributed hugely to their success over the years. You think one of them would have a shred of decency and come on here to confirm Yay nay or maybe. Fuck them they couldn't give a bollocks. The Pogues died with Phil Chevron (RIP), a man who appreciated his fans and a bloody good songwriter too.

What can managers or band members say? It's never The End until it is, and even then it's not a sure thing. Some bands "take a break" and never work together again. Other bands "will never work together again, ever" and then get together and record/tour ten years later.

All that can be said with any certainty right now is that The Pogues have no announced shows and that some members of the band have made public statements that make it sound unlikely there will be any announcements in the near future. Anything beyond that is pure speculation.

Even though it has today's date on it, I'm sure that gig was ages ago and this is just a rehash of an old story.

Anyway one of his friends took a photograph of him yesterday and posted it on Facebook and he looked very well.

The Indy article was published in July last year, after the Hyde Park gig. There were a couple of other Pogues gigs (in Japan and France) after that "last gig ever" anyway. And of course we've heard it many times before. Someday it will be true. Maybe this time, but who knows?

I think we've probably seen the last of them, unless of course possibly we haven't.

The rest of the current pogues are just in it for the cash. That's crystal clear whether or not you wanna admit It. There will be no announcements cause there's no money involved just hang up the boots, live off the royalties and everyone else can get fu*ked.

F'in Hell ! Do we really grudge the lads making a few bob out of something that has given us so much pleasure over the years? I take it you are on this website because you actually may like Shane & Co? Back in the day, before Shane's departure, general word is that certain band members did not exactly prosper in terms of finance, for one reason or another. So, I'm personally glad that they appear to do better these days when the sovs are dished out. Shane's live performances have been pretty damned good, in terms of the last few years shows, it's bloody obvious when he's not trying, or beyond that. I'm thinking of Thetford Forest, Bristol Harbour and even Hyde Park, when he was clearly unwell, but still did the business. Hardly the actions of a man that doesn't give a Feck. I think also, you may greatly underestimate Shane's mental capacity, in terms of fans or anything else....you are well off the mark there. Appearances can be deceptive!
However. I can only echo what MJ1 and Father Mc say, in that a grand finale is absolutely essential for both band and fans, if indeed, it is to end. The usual gig establishments would do fine, as Shane so subtly put it in his TV interview with Frank Skinner, "every shithole in England" ( and not forgetting a joust in Glasgow and Dublin of course!) Can you imagine the emotion of a last hurrah, from the greatest band on earth ? It MUST happen.

The Melkweg in Amsterdam, July 2011 was the last time i saw The Pogues,i must have seen them about a dozen or so times, the first been in Dublin in 1990 when i was 15,shortly after i moved to The Netherlands along with my family.I have been fortunate to have met most of the band whenever they played in my adpoted country, that was quite a buzz.I pray to God its not MY last, but hey, weren't The Pogues a brilliant band?

I think you're right, though that story is so old..Shane's 57 now, not 56..as was said earlier, just a re-hashed story.Me, I reckon he'll just enjoy retirement..and why not?

Yeah I'd say ye are both right. He spent the best part of his life partying hard but still managing to tour the world and gave me some of the best nights out that I'll never forget In the various bands. I taught he was past it until I seen his at chevs gig in the olympia. Taught there was more to come but it wasn't to be (in Ireland anyway). If indeed he is retiring now then best of luck Shano. At 57 after putting his body to the ultimate test it's better to burn out than fade away:)

Btw I hope I'm wrong

I hope it's not the end. If it is I have plenty of great memories

I may well be grasping at straws here, but it's the 30th anniversary of the release of Poguetry in Motion in 2016. A few celebratory gigs would be fun.

And then an IISFFGWG tour in 2018 to mark another 30th anniversary... dreams

Well, they could add the outtakes "Do You Believe In Magic", "Fairly Tale of New York" and a couple different versions of "Rainy Night..." they could stretch it out...
