No, Shane hardly spoke at all and the rest of The group mostly gave announcements etc. Surprise song were Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six.

I imagine that those songs would have been performed as a tribute to Gerry Conlon, who died a couple of weeks ago.

They did the same at the Bristol gig: http://www.pogues.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=2053&p=221241#p221241

Howdy gang,

Every inch of every gig is covered by shaky phone camera coverage. Yet, Except SoS/Birmingham Six has just one sideways, nausea inducing video.

You hipsters should try harder

Best to watch that vid lying down, I reckon.

Good to see you aboard, DITG.

Hi, FH. Good to be remembered.

Had to draw attention to my abysmal attempt at English didn't you!

Was actually a brilliant performance. LAst time I caught em was 2 years ago in Brixton, the surprise of playing Streets Of Sorrow/Birmingham Six actually kinda made my decade (we're gonna pplay a song that really pissed MArgaret Thatcher off back in the day' (or words to that effect :D )).
I felt it was kinda lost on the majority of the crowd, they were there for the Libertines (who also played tribute to Gerry Conlon, again, lost on the majority).
Shane was on good form though he looked a bit knackered, band were tighter than a noose round a judges neck as always.
Only complaint from me is it shoulda been 2 hours :D
I still found a bloke next to me who knew all the words to The Body of an American amongst other tunes too, so I was happy enough ;)

Welcome on board AstroBytes 8)

In all the gigs down all the years i've never heard them play Streets/Brum6. Only on the TV when they were cut off in their prime on Saturday Night Live :x

Thank you mate, been lurking here for years but never felt the need to post.
That's the reason I was so moved, it was the last thing I expected.

Well, from listening to the youtube videos, where you can hear his singing very clearly, and from what other people have stated, Shane was in really bad shape. I can't stand this sugar-coating any longer. I'm the biggest Shane-fan (you might wanna say worshipper) you will find in Germany, but that doesn't change the fact that Shane was clearly not well in Hyde Park.

I wouldn't say he was that much worse than usual performance-wise to be honest (over the past 10 years or so). He managed to sing the correct lyrics several times, not necessarily the right line at the right time but hey, kinda used to that over the years ;) I've seen him much less coherent!
But on a serious note, yeah, he didn't look a well man really. And this time around I'm inclined to believe his statement about this years shows being the last.

I think there is a difference...when you listen to the Paris DVD for example, he's still got the energy and that typical and classic MacGowan sneer and vigor, despite his voice being shot (compared to the good old days)...now listening to recent youtube uploads from Bristol and Hyde Park, the energy is just completely gone...he just mumbles into the mic, no guts...I just hope that the recent health fears will turn out to be nothing serious...good old Shane, love him like family man.

Actually I'll give ye that, that auld energy isn't there. That's true. I think it is still 'in him' it's just not coming out.
All the energy is in the band. He does seem tired.
Not a bad run for only reforming for 'one gig' back in the day though eh ;)

That's so true :D Yeah...I just hope that Shane still has it ... but if not ....he has already done so much and he by no fucking means has anything to proove...he is the man, simple as that. The music and spirit will live on.

Fair play to the arsehole for recognising the song

Hahaha, aye! More than a lot of the other arseholes in cattle class near me managed! :D
Still, I managed to educate a few youngsters in my vicinity as to why that song was important. Small victories eh ;)
