Can you believe that tickets were just $16.50 back in the day?

Top price for Horslips at the National Stadium Dublin in 1972 was 65p (about $1.20). My pocket money only stretched to the 50p (around a Dollar) seats.

Not to worry - I was overjoyed to find an envelope full of ticket stubs so that I could put dates to shows etc...personally, my memory has always been crap! I soooo wish that it was an age thing, but I retain nothing - except the shows themselves - but that is what counts anyway.

I saw The Pogues back in the day. It was in Boston, Joe Strummer was on guitar. I reckon that makes it 1987. Shane was singing and did not have a beard. I swear the venue was The Paradise, but I cannot confirm that anywhere online. I distinctly remember the stage and I remember that the last encore was London Calling.

Unexpectedly loved them as they opened in support of U2 during Joshua Tree Tour:29-Nov-87 Madison Square Garden, New York City, USA 43 min. without Philip Chevron, Joe Strummer on guitar.

For a second I was outraged: Why is that man trying to sing with a pint and a lit cigarette? Nearly embarrassed for my heritage and U2, it then occured to me, that this was the real thing; free of pretense, free of fear, there was so much deeper than it appeared. I grinned with joy and a tear welled up:

' If I should fall from grace with god, Where no doctor can relieve me. If I'm buried 'neath the sod, But the angels won't receive me, Let me go...Where the rivers all run dry.'

Um.....................I was on the U2 at MSG show in fact, and it was in September 1987, I'm almost certain. It wasn't one of our better shows, but it appears to have done us a lot of good.

One person who was not a convert was Herbie Hancock who, uninvited, collared me backstage and told me "your band has no soul, man". Tosser.

Thank you Philip for setting that record straight. Serves me right relying on the Internet for my background info.

Mr Hancock has no feel for his own musical genres; must be why he had to lash out at someonelse's band.

Wanted to ask you how you could have missed that event. So pleased you were present. Was Mr. Stummer in tow for that show tho? Had my resource gotten that part right?

Joe replaced me as guitarist for about 3 weeks near the end of 1987, yes, while I was in the hospital. Seems like the date may be right but not the venue. The reason I remember MSG so vividly is that I had the most ridiculously unpleasant blazing row with Frank Murray that day about infringing the Dress Code in some way or other (this from a man who considered blue jeans, loafers and a blue blazer a good look for a Pogues manager) which meant that, instead of resting on the afternoon of an important show, I was forced to traipse around 7th Avenue looking for a last-minute suit, ending up with a hideous item which, though several sizes too big and made of polyester, at least did not infringe the Dress Code. I never wore it again and it ended up for a while in a display case in the Hot Press Irish Music Hall Of Fame exhibition, along with the typed story of "My Madison Square Garden Suit", written in faux fond-reminiscence by myself. I never got either back when that enterprise failed, so I can only assume the suit finally found a suitable final resting place in a landfill dump near Dublin. The typed sheet is in the National Library, I hear.#

But I'm terribly lucky that they come to Belgium the 12th of August Since I read it in the paper, I'm so excited that I'm checking the site of the festival everyday to make sure I order my tickets as soon as they are available

I'm dreaming of seeing a Pogues gig from the very moment I got to know about them (through a friend who wanted to start a folkband), and that feeling only got stronger as years past by and I got to know more about them . I actually planned on go seeing them in England someday. But now they're coming to Belgium!

I saw them first at the Roseland gig mentioned earlier...1988...I was 17.

Then, this past March 16, I saw them in Philly with my husband. Ridiculous snow, but we had a babysitter and tickets, so to hell with the weather. If Shane could show up in a wheelchair we could slog through some slush.


So, almost 20 years between shows. If they come back to Philadelphia we'll be there. Hopefully we won't wait another 15 years.

I saw a small black & white add on the side of a fence downtown Montreal, Canada. It was advertised the Pogues show in July 1986. But the strange part was this ad followed me all day appearing on phone booths and telephone poles, etc. I stripped one off and told my buddy, Paul Cherry. "We gotta check out this band. You're Irish, they're irish". He was game for any alternative band. We only knew one song,Dirty Old Town. It wasn't like now where within minutes you can download he whole catalogue in minutes.
We did not know what to expect but the show rocked!!! Shane never ever put down his glass!!! We became fans for life that nite and have loved them ever since!!

I saw the Luka Bloom opening tour also and thought he was quite boring. 2 years earlier Mojo and Skid opened, and it was my first Pogues experience, so I have fond memories of that show. Joe Strummer subbing for Philip back in 87 was an interesting show. If memory serves me, Philip had broken his arm earlier which led to Joe taking over. I saw the show when they co-headlined in 89 with The Violent Femmes at an outdoor venue, which was a very cool show. As kmurray mentioned above, Mojo and Skid opened here as well. Phranc opened for the Peace & Love tour in Ann Arbor. Shane did not even make it through "Boat Train" (their 1st song) and Spider took over for the remainder of the show. Saw the shows without Shane, and actually ran into Philip prior to a performance at St. Andrews Hall (Detroit) in 1997. The October 2006 show was unusual, but mostly because I flew into Vegas for the day for the concert, and took a red-eye out later that night in order to make a meeting at 10:00am the next day. Man, cannot wait until March 4th for the Detroit show!

I saw Elton John in 1972...60 pence to get in...ah the good old days..when chicken really tasted like chicken..and Elton wasn't a freak..well, maybe a bit.

I saw the Pogues in Vitry Sur Seine (France) in 1989 for FREE ! This free gig was organized by the Revolutionary Communist Youth (Jeunesses communistes révolutionnaires).

Saw them several times but my favorites gigs are :

* Paris La Mutualité June 1986 with Phranc, Niayh Fearties & Les Endimanchés (Elno's brother band). Last time I saw them in a small venue. Total chaos.
* Paris Zénith March 1988 With Joe, Kirsty...
* Derby 1990 & Wembley 1990 not for the gigs themself but for the backstage...
* Brixton 2001
