Gavin Friday deputised for indisposed Philip Chevron at the Radiators From Space show at Dublin's Voodoo Lounge July 6. He performed "Kitty Ricketts" along with "Faithful Departed" and Marc Bolan's "Children Of The Revolution", while the rest of the set consisted of Rads' classics old and new, ably delivered as always by Pete Holidai and Rapid. Material ranged from their snotty first single "Television Screen", [which turned 30 years old in April], through to the new material from their acclaimed "Trouble Pilgrim" album which was released in Ireland on their own 625 Label last October and has just been picked up for Europe-wide release by UK independent Ace Records. Ace will release the album in September on its Chiswick label, the imprint which carried all the Rads' earlier classics.

Gavin's friendship with the Radiators goes all the way back to the mid-70s when the Radiators From Space and The Virgin Prunes laid claim, in quick succession, to being the coolest bands in Dublin. Further bonds were forged when Agnes Bernelle. Philip Chevron's elderly "protogee" also became one of the Prunes's most devout supporters. Chevron, who has also pulled out of all Pogues work while he receives treatment for cancer of the soft palette, hopes to be back onstage with both bands later in the year. He and the other Radiators are grateful to Gavin for his art and his musicianly solidarity and hopes they will not leave it so long to work together again - Gavin last appeared as a guest on The Radiators' live 1987 benefit album Dollar For Your Dreams.
