Thousands (Nature vs. Nurture?)

Hi Phil-

Curious, would Thousands have been written if you hadn't joined the Pogues?

Nature vs. Nurture?

Thanks again for 4 fantastic nights at the Fillmore!

I rarely give much thought to the hypothetical (the actual is enough to be getting on with) but almost certainly, yes. Would it be the same song? almost certainly not.

Wouldn't it be cool if you did a 'cover' version with the Radiators, punked up a bit??? :D

Or is that against some moral principles?

That would be interesting.

Well, the Radiators do have a sort of related song call "Faithful Departed" which Shane always wanted the Pogues to cover, but no, generally I prefer to keep the two things separate. That said, when Cait O'Riordan was in the Rads, she sang a version of "Haunted" with us in the encores.

By the way, there is a punk cover of "Thousands" which was released a few years back, but the name of the band escapes me.

I think I heard that somewhere but probably thought it was shite because I don't have it on my computer anymore

That'd be great to see. I've decided I prefer the Radiator's version to Christy Moore's. Christy's got the magic, but the Radiator's one is much more me.

I have two other covers of 1000´s. One with a band called The McGillicuddys and one with Six Mile Bridge (female singer)

I just downloaded that McGillicuddys version today, by coincidence. To put it politely, it's Not Very Good.

Still I have a bit of a fixation with Pogues covers so I have to check them out even when they're utterly shit... and there are others much, much worse than this! I've got loads of them and listening to some of them is akin to having one's head battered with a tin tray.

Hang on... what am I saying... that always looks like fun actually...

Kray??

I saw the fella from Finnegans Lads was listening to (on the AudioScrobbler site - http://www.last.fm) so I searched on it, and hey-ho! They were giving it away free on their own website.

Actually I suppose musically it ain't bad, but as you quite rightly point out, the vocals aren't up to much. To say the least. Still, they obviously have good taste at least!
