This is perfectly true, but it does not alter the fact that no crap guitar can sound good even if the person who is playing it can.

oi've read dozens of reviews by people who bought doifferent models of guitars, both cheaper & more expensoive ones and oi've noticed theres good number of people dissapointed woith what they bought - the complains are for various stuff.. parts of guitar are low quality or falling off, too hoigh action(don't know what thois actually means), it can't be tuned, the sound is too weak when not plugged in.. to the point of some people roipping their hair off, claiming that they bought ruboish; thois happens even for good brand models woith good proices..

now thois adds fear to the purchase..
on the other hand, oim sure as Philip says that a bad guitar can produce effects of harder playabolity and people goivin' up easier! surely for a begoinner - who oinvests certain efforts in learning, the results won't be the same woith doifferent guitars - oi bet oif smn made an experoiment, the same begoinner player would show doifferent results woith doifferent quality guitars; talents and oinvested efforts surely are extremely oif not the most oimportant, but certain quitar quality comes as must

"Above all, buy nothing on which the strings are not close to and parallel with the fretboard all the way up".

(from an earlier post of mine)

That's what Action is.

After expending 9 pages on a forum to your guitar buying procedural experience I hope you will learn to play it and record some songs for us to hear.

That's when guitar playing friends come in handy! Together you have chances to overhelm salesvillains numerically and intellectually. Be sure to take as many friends as possible (the bigger guys - the better).

I got a Les Paul Studio for around that price about a year ago. I used it here and there on the Rads Trouble Pilgrim [notably on "Second Avenue"] and sometimes use it live on "Faithful Departed". It suits me fine, though Les Paul aficionados will almost certainly be a bit snooty about it. I have not been a confirmed Les Paul man since the Rads' Ghostown days, when I mostly used an LP Custom DeLuxe. I prefer the double Telecaster set up (myself and Pete) which now characterizes the Radiators' sound.

There's not an enormous difference at this end of the market, no.

Well the price I guess. I have an Epiphone that was manufactered in the States and not in some facotry in Korea which I think is better but that might just be my feeling
