oim startoin' to understand..
yeah, oit makes sense..
0-0-2-2-2-0 ois what oi knoiw as basoic A choird
Image
so the numbers reffer to playoin' B, G & D oin 2nd fret..
symboil coiuld even be X-0-2-2-2-0, cause bass E ois not to be strummed

G choird oir G dur.. yeah, oi noitoiced em' numbers are strange noiw,
so G equals 3-2-0-0-0-3
oi get oit, groiivy!!! :D :D :D
tois' just to be watched froim aboive.. froim 6th stroing - deep E and go under, foilloiw the frets and
oits ok to read;

but further moire whats ointerestoin'.. ye say oif oi moive standard G (3-2-0-0-0-3) and play oit
2 frets hoigher - that woiuld be 5-4-0-0-0-5 - then oi get pretty much the same stuff as woith
standard A (0-0-2-2-2-0). Hey thats great stuff !!!!!! Tois' much easoier than pushoin' all 3 foingers
woith standard A. Ois there a soimoilar stuff to get an E or C oin hoigher frets??? Tois' cooil stuff !!!
Oi mean, oi stay oin same tunoing', same choirds poisoitions, and up the frets oi can get the
choirds.. Thois can help me playoin' soime stuff !!!

Pyro wrote:Yes. You have various chord shapes - for example G dur can be played like (again, the first number indicates E thick, the second number is A string etc.) 2-3-0-0-0-3 (this is probably how you know it) or 3-5-5-4-3-3 (this is the barre version I mentioned). If you move it one fret higher (which is equal to capo on the first fret), you´ll get a G#. If two frets, you get A dur. So the first version moved by two frets would be 4-5-2-2-2-5 - which is painful or impossible to hold really. The second version is 5-7-7-6-5-5 - which is playable all right - barres are well suited for moving up and down. So you get A dur. Or you can play "usual" A dur which is 0-0-2-2-2-0. It sounds a little bit different (I prefer sound of barre chords, but many would disagree), yet it´s rather similar (no surprise, since it´s the same chord really). By moving it further frets higher, you can get any dur chord.

I hope I don´t confuse you too much :-)

Well, that G chord moved wouldn´t become 5-4-0-0-0-5, but 5-4-2-2-2-5 - you have to add 2 even to those zeros. And these 2's are held by barre (but barre G or A are held by different shape) - which may not be the easiest to play, as you´re a beginner, but it´s definitely worth it in a long run.

Yes, there are these things for C dur and E - by the way, you can notice, that E dur and F dur are "the same" - same fingering, but E note goes right before F, so it´s like if you hold barre finger on "0th" fret (which is not a fret, really).

But these alternate chords are generally more difficult to play, basic D and E are quite simple :-)

Process of learning guitar is not easy and takes some time - and basics of playing (basic chords etc.) are not to be simplified...
Good luck!

So, today, I got a 12-string guitar...let me tell you, it´s SO awesome - I absolutely love the sound! As expected, barres are really tough and my fingers used to singe nylon strings hurt a bit, but those few days of pain are price I´m willing to play gladly.

I have a Yamaha FG 412-12 for almost 10 years now and the sound of it is just great. I prefer the fuller sound of the 12 strings.

Well, I play guitar for about 10-12 years, so the learning part is kind of all right, but playing is a little more difficult - I wouldn´t say twice though :-) It´s not like it has same distances as 6-string guitar, these strings are paired - which gives that lovely sound (irish bouzouki has its strings doubled too, I believe).

I just have to learn how to pick strings better with the plectrum, but that´s probably just matter of practise - playing chords with it goes nice so far.

Funny thing is, that since my fingers are not used to those harder strings, the texture on my fingers of my left hand disappeared :-) Yippiay, let´s go murder something! THere will be no fingerprints :D

Not really, but it is definitely a pain in the ass to keep in tune!

oi've learned soimethoing, the hard way as always..
Philip, oim sure ye can add soime moire woirds of woisdoim..

Oits oimpoissoible/hard/soiunds loike crap/doin't do oit.. guoitar can't be played well oin drunken' state!!!
Maybe tois' better that oi've learned oit noiw than oin stage, but stoill oi felt loike a feckoin' fool.
Bad judgement, yeah, oi recall oin the past that all me rehearsals and few loive goigs oi had, they coiuldn't pass woithout droinkoin'. But stuff ois, oits not the same when ye have to play the oinstrument & soing. Oits faoirly easy, spoitoit-boostoin' to go on stage drunk and soing, oit can go smooithly, but tois' doifferent stoiry to pull oiut the same woith the oinstrument. No gooid groip oif oit, lack of cointrol, oi can assume oit can be coimpared woith drunk droivoing.. oif oine can't cointroil a car, tois' even harder to cointroil the guoitar..

Well done iRover, you've got some passion there that's paying off and I can feel some really positive vibes. There are odd times when I will have mastered something; feel reasonably confident, then play that same thing at practice and it sounds like crap, then a week later sounds okay again.
Keep practicing - several times a day and remember to have a small goal for each session for so that you're practicing with a purpose and you're feeling like your moving towards something.

My hat off to all twelve stringers. They sound so grand but I'd fly the coop come re-string day...
