One year on

Post Sun Oct 05, 2014 11:09 pm

We're approaching the one year anniversary of Philip's death. In light of this sad milestone Philip's sister, Deborah, has passed along these updates on Philip's continuing contributions to the causes and organizations he cared so passionately about.

On Tuesday 14 October Philip's guitars are being formally handed over to Mountjoy Prison here in Dublin to comply with his wish to donate them to Billy Bragg's 'JAIL GUITAR DOORS' scheme which aims to rehabilitate prisoners through music. There will be a ceremony attended by musicians, family and dignitaries. The President of Ireland has sent a wonderful letter commending Philip for his generosity and lifelong interest in human liberty.

On 23 November there will be a tribute concert in the Sugar Club Dublin. Some of the people who appeared at the testimonial will be there, but it will be on a smaller scale. The proceeds will be donated to St Francis Hospice which looked after Phil in his final weeks.

Deborah has also taken out an advertisement in the Irish Times to note the anniversary and thank friends, colleagues, and fans for the ongoing support.

My best to Philip's family.

It's quite something to be a true individual.

You definitely can still feel Phillips presence in all of his music. He is dearly missed by all who loved him and his music. RIP Phillip.

This is a wonderful gesture and so typical for Phil's generosity, in life as in death. A true gentleman and a true humanist. May the guitars have the intended result, there could not be a better use for them. Very sad I cannot make it to the tribute in November.
I raise my glass to his memory. Dearly missed.

Thanks and love to Deborah for sharing this. There will be more than a few glasses raised this week.

Donating guitars to this project shows Philip's class. Class is something the man had in abundance. His smartly dressed appearance, his manners, his perfectonism, the examples are endless. Philip's untimely death brought great sadness. His legacy, his music, memories of him, continue to bring joy. Chevron lives.

My thoughts are with Deborah and her family. Mr. Chevron was incredibly generous to his fans and is sorely missed here on the raft.

I saw this post yesterday and for once was lost for words. I echo everything that has been said here. Thanks for the update.

Tomorrow is going to be a tough day for us all.

Mats and I had the honour of meeting Philip's sister Deborah recently in Dublin. Earlier in the week, we had payed our respects to Philip at the cemetery.

Deborah has asked me to pass along a message to all of Philip's friends here on the forum. She wanted to thank all the fans and let you all know that keeping Philip's memory alive means so much to her and her family, especially her mother who has not been too well. I assured her we would never forget Philip, he was our friend.

We miss you Philip... x

It must have broke her heart to have outlived her son. But hopefully she takes strength in how he lived his life.

I, for one, am wearing my "Chevron lives!" shirt tomorrow.

Rest in peace, Mr C, gentleman, scholar, poet.

You are so much missed, and will never be forgotten.

Will raise a glass to you tonight. And a dozen more besides.
