Thanks so much for the music and for being a friend to us fans. Words cannot express my sadness at your passing. Tonight, I will be raising a glass to you at the Gogol Bordello concert - a band I probably wouldn't even know about if I hadn't been introduced to you and the Pogues 25 or so years ago.

Everything I've ever read about Philip Chevron says he was a lovely man. I love the Pogues and always meant to see them live. Just reading about his death has left a lump in my throat. I'll be buying tickets for December straight away. I'll raise a glass for him tonight and in December.

Nothing I can add to the tributes already posted here, or indeed the many more to come. I'm lucky enough to have met Phil twice, he was a wonderful man on both occasions and had so much time for the fans.

Love love love. The First Day of Forever.

Earlier today, Phil Chevron, the guitarist with The Pogues, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer. Phil was from Dublin but was introduced to Nottingham Forest Football Club by The Pogues' bass player, Daryl Hunt, who is also a fan. Phil eventually relocated to West Bridgeford so he could be near to the club. Recently, when it became apparent that Phil was gravely ill, I wrote to the club and requested that in tribute to him we desist from playing the Fratellis' Chelsea Dagger when Forest score a goal and we replace it with a snippet from 'Fiesta' by The Pogues. The snippet to be played would be obvious to anyone who has heard the song but to the uninitiated it kicks in after about 32 seconds. It is a really raucous piece and would be absolutely brilliant to jig about too once Forest have netted! Try and find it on the internet and see what you think.
Anyway, I haven't received a reply yet and it is now, sadly, too late for Phil. However, it is not too late for us. Could I ask that if anyone agrees with me they write to the club and echo my request. Playing the snippet would be a fitting tribute for one of our own and would give just a little bit back to the fans. I'm sure Phil would be very proud and if he gets the chance to speak to The Man Upstairs (Cloughie, not God!) it might just help with our promotion push, which would be the most fitting tribute of all.

I've have been listen to "Thousand Are Sailing" so many times... For many years in my twenties and when I was living in Dublin for six months. I'm listening to it right now. Such a beautifull song. Well done man, good job. Thanks for everything. See you when I'll be there.

First saw Philip with Radiators from Space supporting Thin Lizzy.
The sound was cut off when they went over the decibel limit.

A rebel in the best sense of the word even then.
