I was on holiday in Argentina when i heard the sad news of Philip Chevron passing away, i only ever saw The Pogues 5 or 6 times, the first was in Dublin over 20 years ago,the others in Holland where i now live.Thousands are Sailing is just about my favourite Pogues song and listening to it on my way into work the other day,i became very tearful, not easy when you are on a bike. Thanks for the memories,RIP Philip.

I booked my tix to the gig on the day Philip died; with the time difference it would have been within hours of his passing, so it was a day of elation to feeling shock and deep sadness for his people. I'm a younger fan and I discovered them late, but this music has been the soundtrack of the past couple of years for me. Especially Thousands. I'm delighted to now discover more of Mister Chevron's music through Radiators. They all make me wish I'd been born ten years earlier.

I look at Pogues videos, especially of years past, and the thing that makes me smile the most is Philip's physical joy in the music as he plays, it's jubilant and very pure. I imagine this is very much who he was.

So I am sad I will not see you again on stage Mister Chevron, or ever meet you to thank you to your face, and I'm sad because you were in pain and left your loved ones early.

I'm glad you gave us your music - thanks from the heart.

And the song went on
Though the lights were gone

"Philip was one of the doughtiest people I ever knew," said James Fearnley.

Of course I had to look up the word "doughty." :)

Beautifully put Ladyludd. You may be "a younger Pogues fan" but your words display a great deal of wisdom - just the sort of sentiments Philip would have expressed for others who have left us too early, in fact.

I have been thinking about Phil like all of his fans, friends and family. Every now and again something from the testimonial will pop into my head. What a magical evening that was. I loved the idea of playing a burst from Fiesta at the football, then I was thinking of wearing a Chevron on my arm at the pogues gig. Then I thought imagine if loads of fans did this at the Christmas gigs. We will miss him so much

How did I miss this sad news until today? It's very hard for me to write this as The Pogues and their music have been the soundtrack of my days for years and years. My father died of the same type of cancer and thus I feel like I know the sorrow Mr. Chevron's family has faced as they watched his illness progress and then had to say goodbye. My heart goes out to them, to the members of the band, to all who knew him personally, and to all the fans like me who have loved his music for so long. I pray he is at peace, his bright spirit serenading the stars. My heart is filled with gratitude that such talented people come among us and share their music, making all of our lives so much better and more meaningful. Rest in peace, Philip Chevron, and thank you so very, very much.

My condolences to everyone who knew him! Truly a formidable loss.

And what a gentleman he was. How many artists from bands of The Pogues' stature, would bother answering a mail from an insignificant fan? Not only did he answer my mail, but he gave my girlfriend and I backstage passes for their New York-gig in 2006. I didn't even ask him about it! I never got to meet him though, but he sure gave me a solid impression - through this forum - as a great, compassionate, kind, funny, intelligent and most of all - genuine - person.

Rock on, Chevron! You are one of the greats!

Nearly one month ago I stopped by and read the horrible news. I'm sorry, but just today I heard of Philip's passing. Feel like an elephant kicked me in the gut.
So, so sad.
We've all lost a good friend.
