So long Philip - now you're free from the pain that you battled against.

It is ironic that so much anguish and distress should manifest in your soulful music and poignant lyrics.

Thanks for the inspiration and solace of your songs. The soaring melodies of "Thousands are Sailing" and "Lorelei" were integral to the soundtrack to some of my best experiences and memories - not least of which was being in the front of the audience to watch The Pogues perform in Madrid in May '89.

Gone, but not forgotten!

Sincere condolences to all of Philip's loved ones, friends, fans and followers.

Very nice interview.

Does anyone has the "2nd chapter" - the up and downs of The Pogues that the paper published a few days later?

I hope you find all those you've loved who've gone ahead of you.

Thank you for being part of our lives.

This is how I feel exactly. I can't really fathom how this place is still operating without him, his was such a looming presence in just the few months that I've been here.

And hopefully he'll get to be reunited with the man he's mentioned was the love of his life who died in 1992. I hope that's how it works.

Here's the 2-part Irish Daily Mail interview with him from June for anyone who missed it and wants to feel extra sad:

Dear Mister Chevron,

I am really hurt in my heart from the moment of your passing.

i wanna thank you for your kindness, great music, and contributions to the world.

I am never gonna forget you.

I wanna wish first of all the Chevron family, friends my condoleances, and also the other Pogues members and their crew.

And also the other Pogues fans in the whole wide world.

With the passing of Mr Chevron the world is a whole lot colder, but Heaven is a lot warmer.

I will miss you forever, thanks for your great music, and for your humanity to us.

Philip,
My thoughts are with your family and close friends this morning as your life is celebrated and you are laid to rest. Thanks for all the laughs and brilliant memories. And when The Pogues went big - thanks for getting me into the gigs and the ligs! Your talent and faith in Humanity set many a young mind free and may you now rest in peace.

The end of an era. You will be dearly missed by all us Pogues fans, especially on this site. Thousands are Sailing will never disappear. Your legacy will last as long as there is music. RIP Phil.

Only just read this news. Phil Chevron is right up there for me with the best rhythm guitarists around, and Thousands Are Sailing never fails to send shivers down my spine. I'll treasure the memories I have of seeing him play it at Brixton. RIP Phil. Gutted.
