An incredible performer. He was a real joy to watch live. He may have been ill, but on stage he looked as though he was having the time of his life!

R.I.P Phil, sorry to see you leave.

Thank you for posting Deborah.

I'm an enormous fan of Philip's intellect, wit and vast esoteric knowledge. His open-heartedness was to be admired. I'm very glad to have met you in Dublin and wish you and your family solace.

Like so many others, I simply cannot find words to express my sadness. I will always remember Philip as the kind of compassionate, intelligent and humorous person that we should all strive to be. All my love to his family.
Have you heard about the big strong man?

never been lucky to meet Philip, a milkman of human kindness (as Billy Bragg used to sing) he must have been. Take care, and as some Belgian writer used to say: memories are the wine cellar of the mind...

So, so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers. From the briefs replies I've had with him on this forum and his music, I can tell he was one of the finest beings to bless this planet.

SO gutted. Literally in tears.

Philip was a fine rhythm guitarist, a brilliant songwriter and an outstanding performer. He was an essential Pogue.

Lots of love and sympathy to Philip's family, friends and fellow Pogues.

Damn. What a harsh day.

Absolutely gutted at todays news which has been slowly sinking in all day. I've just sat down and am finally reading peoples thoughts and comments on Philip. I'm glad i got to thank him personally for everything and was fortunate enough to attend his testimonial concert in Dublin. Philip was always so accessible, courteous and warm to all his fans, myself included. Things will never be the same now that he's gone, but he will truly live on in his music and the hearts of his fans. We miss you already Phil. Rest well, and thank you for everything.

Many of us interacted with Phil here and really (rightly or wrongly) considered him to be a friend. He was the best resource a fan could imagine right here all the time on the raft. Google first sent me to this sight when I was looking for some lyrics and I found the forum. I couldn't believe that a band member would be actually posting on a fan sight so I lurked for a bit. After a while I was sure that the philip chevron character really did well staying in character and seemed to say things that only a band member would know. After a while longer I was sure that if he wasn't in the band he would have to have a superhuman ability to make things up and I came to believe.

Anyways, many of us without ever meeting Philip came to think of him as a friend. I really miss him quite a bit and I am sorry that I never met him in person. Your brother was indeed loved by many.

As a testament to that, a friend of mine (who I didn't know was a Pogues fan) posted a link to Philips story today on facebook. The link came from the Dead Kennedys facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/deadkennedys . On it they link the story and as of right now almost 400 Dead Kennedys fans have posted their condolences, many of them citing Thousands or Faithful Departed. I never would have expected so many DK fans to know who he was or why he was special, but I think he really might just have made that much of a difference. He might have been so good to so many fans; gave them time, autographs, backstage passes, song dedications, etc that he is beloved by legions. He definitely deserves to be so loved.

My condolences to your family.

Saw the Pogues while in the service in Germany in 87-what a band Philip was quite the showman-he'll be missed. A part of my youth is gone.........
