In manhattan's desert twilight
In the death of afternoon
We stepped hand in hand on broadway
Like the first man on the moon

...when I heard this song for the first time i was a nearly twenty year old boy in east germany and deep in my heart i had the wish to listen to this song sometimes in the future in nyc ..
that became true many years later ,i sat nearly alone with a little jetlag at six in the morning on times square, this song in my mind,a great feeling, one of the reasons to see ny was this song, one of my favorite pogues songs ever, thank you very much my dear Phil,i will always have you in my mind as i saw you the last time in paris 2012,with cap and coat ...thank you for all

Like so many on here, Phil was good enough to answer some bog standard questions I had a few years ago. Nothing seemed to be too little for him, or too unimportant. He has in so many ways kept a lot of this forum going, basically pulled together Look Them in the Eye... with so much interesting music/stories around this. A complete treasure trove. My best memory was at the first Glasgow show when he returned from his initial treatment & sang Thousands... The roof was just lifted off the place & the already raucous crowd went up another level. It was great & you could see what it meant to the band. I'll never forget him standing on top of the stool that they bought from the Academy in Glasgow & took it on tour with them, just thinking to myself "please don't fall off".

A top bloke from the best band of all time, by far, by none. What memories he has left us all with.

RIP Phil.

It is so hard to know what to say, as I was always extremely jealous of Mr. Chevron's way with words. Even the most mundane topic was eloquent when he posted. So a few rambling thoughts about Mr. Chevron. I think his last post was "The tour is complete" which now has double meaning. I am blessed to have saved some PMs he sent me, including a reply to my 2004 post-show PM within an hour (!!). For me of, on a very personal level, the last show in Boston-March 2011, he dedicated 1000s to my mother, less than a week before she passed. I will tell her to have a cup of tea ready for you friend. RIP.

My beloved brother Philip would have been truly humbled by the outpouring of love and support from all his wonderful fans today. He was a very special and talented man who dedicated his life to music and theatre. His death is not only a loss for our family, but clearly there is a wide circle of friends and fans who also mourn his passing. This is a comfort to us at such a sad time. His life was lived doing what he loved best. That this brought joy and entertainment to others is a wonderful legacy. Sleep peacefully now Phil. X

I'm so very sorry for your trouble and loss Deborah. Your brother taught me a great deal about how adults should interact with each other. I'll blather on more about it later, I'm certain, but for now it's enough to say that he has been a role model to emulate, a pillar to lean on, and a quick-witted & humorous wordsmith to joust with.

I have seen the Pogues perform 3 times and I was lucky enough to meet Philip on the flight from Dublin to London about 4 years back. We spoke briefly prior then shared a nice conversation while awaiting our bags. It was wonderful to speak with such a kind and down to earth man who has given music fans so much. Rest well Philip, you will be missed.
