Philip Chevron, June 17 1957 to October 8 2013

Post Tue Oct 08, 2013 2:11 pm

The Pogues have passed along this message:
After a long illness Philip passed away this morning. We all send our sincere condolences to his family.

Goodbye Philip. Thank you for everything.

Update: October 9

The Pogues have asked that this statement be shared:

The news of Philip's death on Tuesday morning, from complications brought about by throat cancer, has hurt us terribly. Philip was first diagnosed with the disease in 2006 and after a gruelling period of chemotherapy which he had fought with such dignity, strength and heroism, he was declared to be in remission. But in a tragic stroke last August he returned from visiting his oncologist with the harrowing news that his cancer had returned, and that this time it was inoperable. It has been no consolation that we have all had months to prepare for the worst; when the worst came, the preparations we had made turned out to be futile, and the impact has been felt very deeply. The hole that his death has left will be huge. He was a remarkable and fantastically talented colleague, but most of all a friend. Our thoughts go out to his fans, who loved him unanimously. But above all, our thoughts are now with his family, with those he held dear and who have held him dear. Philip will be missed terribly and will always be in our hearts. - The Pogues

Not a shock like Kirsty or Joe, but very sad news nonetheless. RIP Phil.

Thanks for everything Philip! Thanks for always talking to the fans, helping me get photo passes, and just being a nice human-being. :( I'm so bummed right now.

Devastated by the news. Philip was a true gentleman and scholar. I'm so pleased I got the chance to tell him recently how his music had helped me through shitty parts of my life. I had the sweetest note back from him. Goodbye and thank you for everything. xxx

So sad. This will be a much lonelier raft without Mr. C aboard.

So very sad to hear this news. A gentle and generous spirit joining one helluva band in the stars today. Will be raising a glass while shedding a tear at Brixton. Much love to his family and friends. RIP, Philip.
