The guitarist and bass player seem to be completely incompetent, like they don't even know the right chords. However, Shane, Spider and Andrew were trashing!

You have to listen to this on the RTE recording in the link above. They struggled at the start because they seemed to be trying to get Shane's key or were afraid to fuck it up. When they all kicked in, it was a great version. Spider's whistle playing is fantastic.

Much respect to Shane for singing Philip's proper lyrics, not his own bastardisation about Behan puking or falling up and down the street. HE DANCED! And also the fear of priests with empty plates, guilt and weeping effergies 8) Has he ever sang that version live before?

I'm going to download Paul's video and edit RTE's sound recording onto it. I'll post it up here ASAP

Shane sang the "guilt and weeping effigies" on the Paris Live DVD

 must pay more attention.

Thank you kindly for recording & sharing!

While i was at work yesterday, missing this concert, i was wearing my Pogues shirt. A customer started talking to me, an old fan. Turns out his wife worked A/R for Polygram/Capitol/Warners over the years, and he once hosted Horslips (amongst many others) at their home. He said they were the most relentless party-ers he ever met in years of being around the 70s rock scene! He was shocked to hear about Philip as, being an Irish Emigree himself, "Thousands..." has always been one of his favourites.

To be fair it should of been the Pogues there anyway. Really cant imagine what was more important. They know better than anyone how to play along with Shane. Radiators put on a mighty show for Phil as did everyone else there. Fans of Phil who travelled from far and near got more than they bargained for:)

(went to see Shane one time in Naas and the popes had a new drummer they got that day, he knew none of the songs. Complete shambles. Last night was nothing like that. Andrew Shane and Spider pulled it out of the bag. Loved Declan o rourke and Andrew for waltzing matilda.

I was at that car crash of a show in Naas. Awful. Bloody awful.

Yes, the other Pogues should have been there, but I don't know whatever reasons they had not to attend the show, so it's their business and not mine. Some of them live far away I believe, like James in Los Angeles if I'm not mistaken. But yeah, Shane, Spider and Andrew did pull it together fantastically. I've tried to find the recorded event on the RTE site but failed, so it would be very kind if someone could post the direct link, would be very much appreciated! I sincerely hope that Phil enjoyed the evening, from what I witnessed (or rather heard on the live stream) the crowd was phenomenal and the love and kindness they showed for Phil was outstanding and very moving. He truly deserves it. I'm ashamed to say that I didn't know that Philip wrote so many gems, I knew that he was a brilliant talent from his work with the Pogues, but I definately have to check his other work, those songs are truly amazing!

Listening now, at about the halfway mark, and so far i'd have to say The Radiators have stole the show.

A fantastic night - I am listening again right now at home. But one thing I don't understand is that given the meaningfulness of the occasion why o why did people have to insist on talking through some of the spoken word acts - I had to ask one guy to shut it a couple of times, to be honest he looked like he was going to batter me.... so I moved

hi aidan
I like you was beside some chatter boxes
while the various readings were going on
and I like you got dirty looks when I asked
them to politely sush given the night that was in it.
I am still glad I was there but sad because of the reason
for the gig.

Terry's name is on the poster so if he wasn't there I presume it was something unavoidable. As for the others well everybody loves in their own way and we shouldn't read anything into it. In a funny way if it had turned into a full blown pogues event it would have detracted from the fact that the pogues are just a part of Phil Chevron. He has done so much away from the pogues which last nights event has opened a lot of peoples eyes to. It seems that Phil hasn't posted on here for a week or so but if you read this Phil I'd just like to thank you for New York in 2011. You put the finishing touch to he best birthday ever and I'll never forget your advice "if you don't ask you don't get"

An amazing and emotional night. The Olympia was the perfect setting. Lots of musical highlights, especially Declan O'Rourke and Camille O'Sullivan, but Roddy Doyle just captured what needed to be said for me.

A big "bloody well done" to Spider, Andrew and Shane.

Bless you Mr Chevron.

Seems like Forest knew what was expected of them too!

I've been back home a couple of hours and I'm still trying to take stock of everything that happened last night.

The meet up at Bowes was good, I met lots of Medusan's that I've not met before. We shared our stories about Philip and Pogues gigs we've been to over the years and raised a few glasses for Philip. At the Olympia, most of the Medusan crowd stood together and those that weren't together were a few rows behind. The mosh pit didn't get really crowded or rowdy either, most people were quite happy to stand and watch the show.

I knew from what I've read here and elsewhere that Philip's health had got a lot worse but nothing could prepare me for the moment that Philip stepped on stage and I saw him for again for the first time in two years. I, like many others here was looking forward to seeing him again and I'm so glad he was there, but words cannot describe how I felt at that moment, seeing him looking so ill. But no matter how ill he is now, he was still dressed as smart as ever and managed to say a few words. After he left the stage, I cried and hugged the other Medusan's round me.

The show itself was a fitting tribute to a man who we've all got to know, love and respect and will live on in our hearts. I will never forget last night as long as I live and I will never forget you Philip. Thanks for everything.
