I'm very sorry to hear this news Phil. I just hope that the love and support you are receiving at this time is some help to you at this time. I always remember my fourteen-year-old self saving up twenty five quid to buy a ticket to see the Pogues headline the Fleadh at Finsbury Park. It was the first time I had even seen live music but It was obvious even to a gig-going novice such as myself that the Pogues set was not going great. Shane was not really at his best that night (I saw you two weeks later at Brixton Academy with the Chieftans and that is still the best gig I've ever been to). Then you stepped up and sang Thousands Are Sailing. And It was so, so beautiful. I'd never heard you sing it before and it was the absolute highlight of the whole day. Ever since then, I always looked forward to the moment during the Pogues set when you would step forward and take centre stage to sing Thousands Are Sailing. An absolutely perfect piece of music that sits at the head of a proud, long lineage of great Irish emigrant songs. And I saw you sing it many, many times over the years. I have never met you, but you have given so much happiness to me - to us - with your music Phil and I just want to wish you all the best during this. Stay strong brother. Peace and love, Joe x

I hope you read this, Phil. This is for you.

Good afternoon, sir Chevron.

My real name isn't this username, but it doesn't matter. I have just read about yours. You can't imagine how I feel in this moment, because I don't know either. I' m spaniard, and in the fucking 18 years I have I've never, never listen other music group which makes me feel the same I was when I first hear songs like Thousands are sailing, If I shall fall from grace with God, The Broad Majestic Shannon or The Sickbed of. My favourite song is still Lullaby of London; I have cried sometimes with it. Since I was a child I was dreaming about go to one of your concert, but at least I haven't, 'cause you know, Spain miss the Pogues.

I only wanted to say thank you, "muchas gracias", like you know we say here. Your career, your music will never be forgotten. I promise that.
You won't never fall from grace with God. You are, and you will, in grace with it.

I'll send you my best regards. Gratefuly,

Will

The Pogues music got me through some pretty low times in my life, so now it is time for Philip to listen to his fans and use that as a similar way to fight this horrible illness. May he gain power and beat this!!!!

Mr C, like everyone else im gutted to hear the sad news. Christy moore left a lovely personal message about you on his guestbook a few days back. Something to do with setting up a planxty gig back when you were 14. Were all heading for the same place and most of us will be forgotten after a generation or two. You on the other have wrote songs thatll always be around, passed down and loved by music lovers just like they are today. But that's all a bit morbid for now, here's hoping you kick the shit outta cancer for now and who knows maybe even get back where ya belong, on the stage. Peace and love.

Much love. A very good friend of mine was diagnosed with stage 4 bladder cancer a year ago and given a solid six months to live. 15 months later he has beat it and lost only a bladder in the process. I hope that whatever divine intervention occurred there similarly attaches itself to you. You are an inspiration and have always amazed me with your willingness to give something back to us Pogues fans who hold you and your colleagues in such high regard…I thank you for that and am sending as much love and hope your way as I can muster.
Come visit my two new Pogues fans, twin boys Shane & Dylan and follow them from birth, through the ICU and home: http://grierboys.blogspot.com/

Phil, an old friend of mine (not old in age, he's actually only nine months younger than me) who is also called Phil, saw on my Facebook page how upset I was over all of this and asked me to relay a message to you. Please forgive me, you're probably getting a lot of this by PM from other people but I'd feel bad if I didn't at least tell you.

My friend Phil told me to tell you to look into a guy called Rick Simpson, he is Canadian and his website is called Phoenix Tears (I know it sounds a bit weird but Phil seemed to think he might be able to help). You can also search for him on You Tube.

I may not follow up all such leads but I am strangely comforted to get them. Mainly, I am surrounded by so many hard-working and smart Irish medical professionals just now that I can't swear I have time for more input. Thanks Heather

I hope you are experiencing strength and comfort from the outpouring of love, care, and concern that is being sent your way from family, friends, fans, and artists worldwide. Thank you, Phil. May you continue to create and inspire. You whistled it so sweet. And we danced.

Heartbreaking news! Truly saddened by this.
Think everything i want to say has been already been posted, so i shall just be repeating.
Just thank you for all you have given me, it has nor will never be forgotten! You are a massive hero of mine and to be able to class you as a friend means the world to me.
Keep up the good fight and keep up the good dance.
God bless you Mr C

Phil very upset on hearing this news. Why does all this shit seem to happen to the really great people!! You've always been so polite to me over the years when I have hounded you about bringing the band to Australia. Glad I finally seen you all in Sydney in 2012. My thoughts are with you.....and I'm one of the many many thousands that will continue to sail with you till the end of time.
