That was a great read. Thanks.

Just throw my ashes in the field
And hope there's some soul left to save

Hope you're well... just wondering if The Rads have planned any gigs to promote the new album? I'd love to go and see ye... was looking forward to The Button Factory earlier this month! :)

Much love,

John C.

Nothing pencilled in at the moment John, but that may change once we have a clearer picture of what's happening elsewhere for the rest of the year. In the meantime, we're hoping to do some television in support of the new Elpee.

Is the signing still going ahead in Tower tomorrow Mr C.? I'm working at 4 so I'm going to get into Tower for 3... will ye be signing or maybe playing a tune or two?! :)

Peace & love,

John C.

Isn't it Freebird????? My info is Freebird at 3pm.

Steve, Pete, Johnny and Enda will be there, I understand. I will not be there myself as I am in Manchester, but I have pre-signed some Sound City Beat CDs and a handful of Japanese Trouble Pilgrim editions to which the others will add their sigs "live" I suppose.

No plans to play tunes for free but keep an ear out for the Pat Kenny radio show next week (Thursday I think). We recorded a session at RTE this morning and chatted briefly to Pat. A third track recorded at the same time may end up on John Creedon or Fiachna O'Braonáin's shows. All selections from the new album.

Freebird is in The Secret Book and Record Store 15a Wicklow Street, Dublin, just a few doors, coming from Grafton St, after Tower Records

IRISH TIMES REVIEW:

The Radiators From Space

Sound City Beat Chiswick ****

History lessons don’t come much more focused, interesting and boisterous than Sound City Beat, which sees the veteran Irish punk band covering 18 Irish beat group tunes that were originally released between 1964 and 1971. For people aged 45 or under, this is a forgotten era in Irish rock music, but for original Radiators members Philip Chevron, Pete Holidai and Steve Rapid, it was a boom time for soaking up influences and forming cultural identities. Chevron’s engaging, erudite sleeve notes provide all the capsule information you need to know about this essentially underground scene, while for the listener the pleasure arrives in hearing music that paved the way for an alternative musical/cultural narrative to Ireland’s showband and ballad scenes.

Just seen the lads do a few numbers in Freebird - Television Screen, Gloria, 'The Girl' (track from Pete's solo album last year - can't remember full name!) and King Bee - and got my copy of the new album signed! Great chat with the lads. I'll post more when I get home.

My creaky old computer is slowly uploading a bit of video of the Gloria performance to youTube - I'll (hopefully!) add it later.

I thought I was uploading a extract from Gloria but it turns out I posted Pete's solo record song. You still get a good idea of the circumstance of the appearance. Since my creaky old computer took 81 minutes to send the file you'll just have to wait for more!

I gave the album a full blast, straight through , shake the house listen this morning and I'm loving what I'm hearing. I kept thinking, until the Bolanesque ending, of Creedence Clearwater Revival, the same full on sound with that twacky drum sound. A neat comparison really, in that the music is from the same era and same, basically, intent. Ted Carroll & Phil Chevron's sleevenote are hugely illuminating , giving the songs that extra bit of substance. I wouldn't be the pedantic little bollix that I am if I didn't pass up the chance to query one bit of info.. Phil says the Eamon Andrews Studios were on Henry St., Dublin. They weren't - they were on Harcourt St. , sharing a building with the TV Club, where the Gardai HQ is now. My Uncle Ed road managed for a Cork showband who recorded there and I remember him referring to it when passing the location. I also just checked with my Ma and she confirms it - so there!

Just thinking - the Radio Eireann studios used to be on Henry St - maybe that's what caused the mix up.

Pete Holidai ‎tells me on Facebook -

'As it happens you and Philip are both correct. Eamon Andrews studio was originally located in Henry Street and relocated to Harcourt Street. In a historical time-line context Phil is correct.'

Righto!
