So which one was it philip?

There was, I'm told, a sense that, at last, the Dublin audience finally left their sense of superiority at home, let their collective guard down and got with the same joyous programme as the Poguespeople of every other major city in the world. If that's true (and I don't pretend to know for sure as I was, health-wise, a bit under the cosh that night), that counts as a bit of a breakthrough. Otherwise, the second and third nights at Brixton took some beating.

I wish now that I'd gone to some of the Brixton Shows but work gets in the way from time to time. Of the three I did see (Brum, Manchester and Dublin) I thought Dublin was by far the best; with a brilliant combination of the band on the top of their form and audience really giving it some too. The crowd had that total abandon thing going on that reminded me particularly of the International/Carousel gig in Manchester in (I think) 1985.

The Point is a funny place - the security would have been rejected as too evil and violent for the Waffen SS - I had the reasons explained to me but they were still over the top for me.

A major for me was seeing the Radiators. I was delighted that my lad shared my opinion. I couldn't believe how many people couldn't drag themselves out of the bar - their loss. Were they just trying to be cool?

It is a long-standing pact between the people of Ireland and their finest indigenous artists that the former should ignore the existence of the latter until the time has come to entertain the assemblage with their "the night I met....." anecdote, such time not to commence until the funeral of the latter at the earliest.

It is Part Of Who We Are, it has served us well for decades, it is why we are the Greatest Nation On Earth and are Riding The Celtic Tiger. Alternatively, as Mr MacGowan commented, when hearing of the poor turnout for the Radiators at the Point: "So, they have disgraced themselves again, huh? Tscccchhhhhhhh"
